This past weekend, me and the Wife-Unit went with the youngest to the National Competition of NJROTC in Daytona, FL.
Here I am with my toes in the Atlantic Ocean, for the first time.

Was kinda weird to not see ANY platforms or structures offshore.
There, when the tide decides to move, IT MOVES!!!

High Tide -

And Low Tide a few hours later -

Never again will I complain about the Parking Fee charged by Nueces County, as the folks of Daytona are mighty proud of their beach (of which you can only drive on a very select part, AND you have to be in the narrow travel lane the whole time... Rolling Eyes )

Bluff's NJROTC didn't do as well as some previous years (that's a tough standard to be held to!!!), but they did come back with a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Place Hardware in a couple of National categories. Hats off to the Bluff!

good deal on the Bluff doing well in competition....

yeah, we have it really lucky around here to be able to drive on such a huge expanse of beach....one of the reasons I moved back from Key Largo...

and yeah, some tides around here might be nice sometimes....although it really dictates when the fish bite and when they don't....at least around here, when we're able to go fishing in the laguna, the tides don't matter quite as much, and we can catch fish at off tides...

Thanks C.S. It is interesting to see how other states "do the beach" and yes we are fortunate how Texas does it Smile

I grew up in New Jersey and when I got to Texas it freaked me out that you can actually drive on the beach. There you park blocks away and haul all your stuff to the beach and stake out a little 4x4 area to be able to have a blanket on.

It amazed me, all of the 'parking lots' on the other side of Highway A1A, away from the beach, that you had to lug all of your stuff down these tiny strips between hotels, on the Beach Access Roads.

One even had these sets of yellow flags, for you wave as you crossed, - to increase your visibility to ON-COMING TRAFFIC!!!!! Who does that?!?!?!

I like Florida and LOVE the Atlantic, but the "No dogs allowed on the beach, PERIOD" thingy is taking it too far for me! When we go to Destin, the only way I can legally get my pooch in the saltwater is to load her up on the party barge and fast idle 2 miles to Crab Island. Even then, there's no "Island" anymore, just a huge shallow sandbar that's a good immitation for Spring Break EVERY WEEKEND!!!! Shocked Rolling Eyes Embarassed

As to the Atlantic tides; they are no kidding around! When the tide swaps at Sebastian Inlet, it can go from roaring out to roaring in less than 10 minutes!

LOL .... When I saw the thread title "I cheated on the Gulf" I was expecting to read where you caught and kept some state waters red snapper at 12 miles out Mr. Green

I wouldn't want to give you (or anybody) any ideas though Rolling Eyes

LOL... yeah, I went to Maine one year and the scum line to low tide was over 6 feet. Suppose to be 9 ft or more in Nova Scotia.

Glad you enjoyed your trip
