Good Morning South Texas Partners,
...Coastal Flood Advisory in Effect for Nueces and Kleberg Counties...

Briefing:
Strong northeasterly winds today will result in wave run-up across southern parts of the Coastal Bend, primarily south of Port Aransas. Water will run up to the dunes in some locations, especially across the Padre Island National Seashore. These conditions will be most likely during times of high tides this afternoon around 5pm and again on Friday around 730am.

Impacts:
Persistent water levels will likely reach the dunes of coastal Kleberg and Nueces counties with minor water rises seen in the bays.
Driving along area beaches will range from difficult to impossible.
Minor beach erosion likely.

hmmm.....coastal flood advisory, east winds, temps in the mid-70's, and an unstable atmosphere....sounds like the makings of a great topwater bite in the Laguna this weekend...

Water is high, but not all the way to the dunes in most places. I don't know of any 'Closed' sections. Just be careful, watch the tide timing, and hopefully have some luck (cause the Gulf is some kind of angry this morning).

I haven't been down there, but I"ll bet it would be tough to get through Big Shell, and really tough getting through the pinch in the 40's

you might make that, unless they close the beach...I'd give them a call...the number is in a sticky above someplace...

just curious, what's at 15 miles? I hope it's not "your secret fishing spot"!

Headed down to fish next week hopefully.

Becky, I've fished for many years and the conditions you referenced did not indicate to me the topwater bite would be good over the weekend, would you mind explaining your insight?

basically, it's just counterintuitive fishing....discovered this pattern many moons ago....sometimes they like it rough and windy....and when the water is completely dusted out, you have to go with sound to get a bite....

I didn't make it out because my tilt decided to act up....but case in point on the pattern, see Zia's report...dirty water, very windy, but went with noise (rattle cork) and managed to get some decent fish....

Thanks for the reply Becky. It would be interesting to hear from anyone who actually threw top waters with any confidence, and especially if they had success!

well, that's kind of the crux of it all, now isn't it? if you don't have confidence in topwaters, then you're more likely to not throw them very long, or not throw them for long periods of time...which is a negative feedback loop for confidence...

we have friends that throw topwaters year around...of course they slow it down in the winter-time, but it doesn't mean they don't catch fish...

now, that being said, they also don't throw topwaters in 8' feet of water...which is a big hint if you're listening...

I remember it white capping in Bluff's Landing when we went out one windy April afternoon and you got a 28.5 inch on the first cast in that mess.
