Had my older brother, brother n law and nephew(senior in high school) come down to try salt water duck hunting. They have become duck addicts in last year. They all made the drive down from Wichita Falls and we first hooked up with a duck hunting guide Friday morning and had fun but only a decent shoot. Got six red heads between the 4 of us(I have not duck hunting knowledge). We drove to Charlies and unloaded our gear at fish camp and got our fishing gear out. Now it was my time to take them out fishing, I guaranteed them trout:) we hit four spots with nothing. Then we went to area around south pass and the trout bite was on. Everyone got their limit and I hooked into my largest redfish on artificial. (Didn't get accurate measurement but guess is 40-42") the next morning we planned on fishing first and then trying the duck hunting thing on our own. Trout bite was solid again but we were left four short of limit and it was time to go find a spot to set up for a duck hunt. We ended up doing fairly well with it. We got four redheads and two widgeon.
They were pretty excited so we went back to same spot in the morning and first light we had a group of about 15 teal and only got two. Ended up with two more and called it a wrap. Went back to south pass and picked up our four trout in five casts. (Not bad for two of the four people having never salt water fished before)

I think I might just get into duck hunting next season. _________________ Take a kid fishing, best investment for them and our future of fishing. |
