Well, they told us Tuesday was gonna be the day. And I do suppose the forecasters were wrong this time.

The winds never did lay down, and it was about 1500 hours before they let up just a little bit even.

So...over the dune!

To watch the sun come up and visit and old WWII strafing range for the trainer pilots of those days.

Think I could almost have seen a Spanish vessel afloat on there on those waves, bobbing and bouncing...

Got my new Columbia/Pelagic/Aftco outfit on. Laughing

And there I was, at the old fenceline that they put up to keep the cattle out.

Like the old saying goes, moss grows on the north side of the tree...

And the bluestem was so pretty and so vibrant...

Howdy friend!

And then....out of nowhere...I heard the unmistakeable sound that only Sandhill Cranes make!! K-R-R-R-OO!!!

They've arrived for the winter! They say these guys are found as far north as NE Siberia, but winters in Mexico or locally! Yikes!

But where were they going? They had been flying north, then did an about face and flew south...

What do you guys see that I dont'?

And a third one...

And one stayed around to keep lookout....

And out of nowhere...I tripped over some of that material that was used to make the visual line up arrows with....but with no sign of an arrow anywhere near...

And when I looked back up, they had flown north!

So I went to see what had seen before me....and....an old Dunn ranch water tank!

I hear there were around 78 of these on Island, and over the years what was once rectangular with wooden sides become circular as the wood rotted away and time went on....

And somebody had carried a calico crab from the beach here to munch on!

I've always wondered what kind of spiders these are...someone told me but I've forgotten....they are pretty in early morning on Island...

Back out I went.

And the hills of early morning were so pretty and so full of life and color...

And on the way south, just enjoying the day, I stopped to admire someone's handiwork. Very Happy

Ya'll take care, just wanted to share some pics of the Sandhill Cranes, and you know, it makes me happy that they have 131,000 odd acres to be left in peace on, and enough water tanks to tide them over until they decide it's time to ramble on again.

Stan, maybe so? Senior J or some others on here would surely know though! See them real thick sometimes in the spring all through the foredunes in early morning! Maybe get with Johnny French too...

Stan, got an answer from a friend a lot smarter than I!

"Web is typical of the Funnel Weaver group of grass Spiders. Probably Agelenopsis naevia. Known to live several years and one of the spider families in which the males and females live together peacefully on the same web during breeding season (2-3 months)."
