I was out there with some friends. Overall around is seemed slow.
I haven't heard of many catches yet, but there is a lot of beach out there.

A hammer won the shark division. Same guy that one it last year.
Oz placed second with a bull.

A tarpon was finally entered and the angler walked away with $16K.

Kids division was great with a kingfish, big stingray, and jack taking 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, respectively.

Lots of fish were turned in and the weather was most excellent.

Wow 16k! For a tarpon. How big was big trout and what did it win?

i tied for third in the trout and lost on a tie breaker.there were 3 of us that tied. trout fishing was good on friday before the wind switch and tough on sat and sun when the surf went flat. ill be back next year there were 2 tarpon caught and had to feel sorry for the other guy who im sure thought he had 16,000 dollars coming.

First place trout was 24.75", which I was most excited to have caught. The announced winner was 23", but that was a mistake that was made right by Sharkathon. Results are on the website now

Um, why is there is there a "State of Texas (state PARK police)" truck in the background of the 2nd place trout winners photo when there was no allowed fishing for sharkathon in the state park Question
Ive fished the surf ALOT and I have never seen a Texas Park Police truck anywhere but on the highway or inside the state park....

I thought the beach in the state park was closed to driving.
And we can see another truck in picture. So I don't think he's in the state park. Now as to why the state park police is there, I don't know.

Just north of fish pass is technically state park property and is in the legal sharkathon fishing area.

I have been checked by state Park cops on the north fish pass jetty.
