What is up with all the brown surf? Does anyone really know what is causing it (wind, upwelling, the Almighty)? _________________

This is another cold water upwelling. And it is very brown even past the third bar. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

Yes, we went down past the 25 mm Saturday with no change at all. Gave up and turned around at that point. |

| With the brown water, would there be any fish to catch? I don't care what, I'm taking a friend with his boys who haven't ever fished before. I was thinking fish bites would at least get some whiting. |

It's tougher but worth a try. You might even get a black drum or red with the occasional hard head catfish. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

for newbies, I'd do a pier like Charlie's pasture, Indian point or one on the JFK Causway...
maybe jetties...
that crappy surf will disappoint..
kids don't want to fish...

I thought about piers, but with five kids (5-11) and just two adults. I figure it'd be easier on the beach. If fishing is slow, they can at least run around and play in the sand. |

| I've wondered what the heck is up with this repetitive cold water upwelling, and I don't remember it being so common years ago. I went from fishing the surf everytime I got a chance since I could drive, to the last couple years just going every now and then, because it seems like something is always screwed up, so I feel it's a safer bet to stick to the bay. Last night on the news Dale Nelson explained it in a way that makes sense, he said when it is very windy, that the wind basically blows the warmer water in the upper column north and the cold water from the bottom rises up as a result, royally screwing up the surf for trout fisherman (I added that part). It sucks, but it is part of it I guess... |
