Because my 150 ETEC was idling very roughly, but OK at higher speeds, I had someone look at it. One of the cylinders reads 35 Lbs and the 5 others read 120 Lbs.

I've heard 4 options:

1. Buy a new engine - $20k +
2. Buy or trade it for another used engine - about $7k
3. Replace the block - $5k (used) / $18k (new)
4. Resleeve the single cylinder on the existing engine - I don't know yet.

I don't even know who might resleeve in the Corpus area. I also don't know if you have to remove the block from the engine to resleeve it. I won't be doing any of the work myself.

Ideas please?

Carlos

if you're getting quotes of $20,000 for a 150 ETEC, my first suggestion is to get a quote from someone else, because that's insane.

How many hours? only got a little over 200 out of my 115 E-tech. Sent it to a place near Dallas and they re-built it for me. It was a lot cheaper than a new power head. But I heard it locked up a few months after I sold it. I did get a transferrable warranty. I don't know if they honored it or not. Haven't had the best luck with warranties. [/img]

Hooch: How did you find out about the place near Dallas? Did you take it to a mechanic here first? I purchased my boat and motor new in 2007. The engine has about 800 hours on it. You can pm me the information if you want.

I'm not sure you can re-sleeve those Etec's....I think they already have some kind of coating on the walls....
I'd recommend talking to a local mechanic...

I was going to take it to Portland today, but I'll wait until tomorrow because I have a private showing of my photography to a client this afternoon.

Have a place in San Antonio I use for all my engine machine work, duffin machine shop. They have done maybe 3 car motors, 3 outboard power heads, numerous atv and dirt bike cylinders for me. Best place I have ever found- great folks and very honest and thorough with their work. They can resleeve your block and it will be right the first time. They are located by the airport near 281 and loop 410. They have been in business many years and stand behind their work.

I would pull the head and see what the cylinder looks like, could be a broke ring and may only have to hone cylinder and get new rings. See what the problem is and then look into repair options. Newer motors have a nicasel coating on cylinders , could bore cylinder and recoat it and be good
