An Italian beef sandwich is both delicious and beautiful in its simplicity:

Meat, bread, maybe some pickled veggies (giardiniera) and if you want the true experience, the whole mess is dunked in a vat of beef juices. THAT'S IT!
The rub is that it is difficult to replicate. The bread is the key. A special roll from Chicago is used that doesn't disintegrate when plunged into liquid but remains soft enough to easily bite and chew.
Fortunately, in San Antonio we have a man, a Chicago transplant, that makes the real thing. He gets his supplies shipped in from Chi-town.
