It's not Ixtoc worthy, but...... Holy EPA Clean-Up Batman!!
The beach got invaded with tar overnight. Access Rd 3 to Newport Pass Rd. was pretty bad. Most of it is weathered, but I did find some really fresh stuff. I have some pictures, but my phone does not want to 'talk' to my computer right now.
[I will be throwing tar off my tires for miles..............] CS

Back in the summer of 1972 the stuff was so bad that I would head for Fish Pass jetties with a stripped and freshly waxed surfboard deck, and at the end of the outing ( 3-4 hours ) the deck would be a dingy chocolate brown and getting slippery with all the oil and silt combined with the surfboard wax.
As little kids, we would sometimes come home from the beach and grampa would give us old rags and Varsol to clean our feet before coming in the house...... _________________ Dave

| Was SBH this afternoon and saw the tar there too. Some of the blobs were still "soft and gooey." Don't know if it's related, but I heard on the news that a well offshore from LA had some problems, then caught on fire, workers evacuated, and reports of oil slick in the Gulf. |

| Was wondering what caused the tar to be coming in. Asked my fishing / softball buddies, they didn't know. |

Figured out the computer issues, and here is what I found yesterday around Access Rd. 3.
Most of the beach looked like this:
Farther up towards Packery, it looked like the County had a crew out picking up tar, but once they got down to where I was, they ought to have their hands full, as some places were pretty bad:
And not all of it was weathered, as there was some fresh stuff in the 'Back Lake' that has become part of the landscape now:
Overall Yuckiness........ |

| I saw some fresh stuff at Fish Pass jetties on Friday. I am curious to se if this was a natural phenomenon or part of a spill. |

Thanks for the update, I was going to take my boys fishing today, but between the high tides and now tar, they will just have to wait.
You saved me about a 1-1/2 hour drive today. |

The theme of this article is that tar on the beach is natural. I would like to hear what the experts say on this particular case. _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |
