If Rippin is including the wood rod, that is an excellent price. 10 footers are expensive.

I also make my own, and ironically, it is almost the same exact design with exception of the lag bolt. Instead of using a lag bolt for attaching to the rod, I use about 10" of the all thread, fill the hole with JB Weld and screw all thread in.

I also take the two outer prongs and angle them so they are flush with the wooden rod. I cut a groove for each outside piece to fit into side of wooden rod along with JB Weld. Upon completion, I take two stainless steel clamps and put around it all.

Rippin, I am not trying to steal your thread; just some more idea. As you know, it is not the flounder that abuses the rods, it is pushing off the shallows.

I had to replace the rods after ten years of use only because I left them in the sun and they dry rotted.

Summary, if he is including the wood, this is an awesome price.

John's addicted, I saw a guy one night with a gig you are asking of with exception that it was not spring loaded. Stringer went right into the gig so that when he gigged a flounder, he just slid it right down to the stringer. His stringer had a float tied on the end. He told me he just untied it and slid the flounder right off. In his other hand, he had some light in about 1" PVC that had batteries in the handle. I think he told me it would run bright for about 4 hours and that was more than enough for him.
