|
|
Well this will be my 5th year fishing but I'm a bit confused on two things.
First, I didn't see anything on the website this year for the 10' = 10k. Does this mean that its no longer a possible payout?
Secondly, and more important is this rule:
4) A participant can only accept help with bait deployment from no more than one qualified participant, as per divisional requirements, for the duration of the event. If a participant accepts help with bait deployment they have to designate as to whom help was received from on their catch-log sheet. All participants must be checked in prior to helping any other participant. Multiple participants deploying baits for one participant is not allowed.
So, if I am fishing with a team, as I always do, does this mean that we can just all take turns paddling baits? It reads as if we have to designate who we paddle baits for........ _________________ Blue Streak Fabrication - Manager / Fabricator

It does read that way. Im thinking that it's one person to help and that's it. That kind of sucks though but if that's the rules it is what it is. I'm sure someone will chime in that's on the Sharkathon board to clear this up. Would be interesting to hear the answer. _________________ Great captains, the stuff of legend, are made not by what they have caught, but by what they have given back. |

Make sure you pose the question to Sharkathon directly. I was on the board for years, and I know that they generally don't answer questions on forums like this. Info2014@sharkathon.com is the place to get clarification of the rules. It really sucks that people have come to the point of trying every possible combination of ideas to earn a payday. The rules are expanding every year to try to prevent people from having an unfair advantage. Hell, people don't even pay their own entries any more. Some backer is paying for them hoping to buy part of a winning team. I ran into a couple on the beach this weekend and they said, "our sponsors paid for our entry into Sharkathon and we will split the money if we win"....whatever it takes to win I guess. This certainly wasn't the idea when we created the event in 2004. That year everyone paid their own way and everyone fished hard. The prizes were smaller, but the tournament was pure. I guess as we added money to the pots, it watered down the ethics of some of the participants. There are several rules that were created solely because of the behavior of a few folks. It really is sad that people have to be forced to be honest by an ever expanding list of rules. It took me about 30 minutes to read the rules last night!
Good luck to all of you and please post the answer you get. I don't have a team of people to run my baits. What I can run is what I can fish and if I win it will be because of hard work, not because I know a team of young people who run baits for me and throw the cast net 300 time a weekend.
If people aren't sore and exhausted after Sharkathon, they don't deserve to win! BTW...sorry to hijack your thread...and I certainly don't imply that my rant applies to you, just some observation that I have made from my 2 years as an angler outside of the Sharkathon organization.

The mosquitos will probably paddle out baits for you this year if it keeps on raining. Big strong ones. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

Preach it! You are dead on. And I totally agree that if you don't fish your supple bum off you don't deserve to win. _________________ Great captains, the stuff of legend, are made not by what they have caught, but by what they have given back. |

| Sharkathon is an individual event. Use of non-participants to any advantage or help with bait deployment from someone not qualified as per divisional requirements, will result in disqualification. This is not a team event and multiple people helping one person is not allowed. |

Hopefully they get their fill with the Sharkathon participants and move on. I'll be heading down a less crowded beach a couple weeks after the tourney. _________________ Fool me once, shame on - shame on you. Fool me - you can't get fooled again.

Got a response from the board:
Yes the 10K was just recently finalized and it will be around again this year.
Sharkathon is not a team event, in the past persons were having multiple people do all the work for them and only one person reel in the fish creating an unfair advantage.
We had to address this issue and create more rules once again.
Yes each person is now only allowed help deploying baits from one person within the division and or qualified as per Sharkathon rules.
If it was not for ADA regulations we would be at the point of no help whatsoever in an attempt to make it fair and prevent someone having 10 people paddle their baits out for them. _________________ Blue Streak Fabrication - Manager / Fabricator
