Anyone own a Igloo Yukon?
If so, does it keep ice for a long time? _________________ Live to Fish... Fish to Live

Mr.C, I just read your other post about having your yeti stolen in corpus... I too have been broken into several times around Aransas pass and port a but never Corpus. I guess it can happen anywhere, but very disappointing when it does. I recently bought an igloo sportsman and I love it plus it is half the price of the yeti and works just as well in my opinion.

Thanks Bobby for that input! I'll need to research the Sportsman! Yes, thieves will and can steal anything anywhere - even when it's locked up! I'm going to put several THICK chains and locks the next time! It's terrible that we have to lock everything up and worry about it when we should be completely enjoying fishing!
Cheers!

Has anyone ever engraved/carved/melted their name and phone number into the cooler, in such a way that doesn't damage the integrity of the cooler but would devalue it in a way that its tougher to sell at a pawn shop? Is this even possible?
EDIT
sorry, meant to post on the other yeti thread. Didn't mean to hijack- carry on. _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |

Found a used Igloo Yukon and purchased it. Now, I'll need to go win some dart tournaments to pay for it.
I'm going to put about 100 lbs. of thick chain on the sucker along with several extreme locks.

I wouldn't chain that thing to your boat. all that's going to happen is next time a POS comes along, they're still going to steal the cooler, and now they're going to do $2,000 worth of damage to your boat to get it out.
best way is to just shoot them in the face when you catch them and be done with it. |

IGLOO......because there won't be a river of tears when it gets stolen. As for marking, just use a vibrating engraver. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

I would use a wood burning tool and melt my name deep into the plastic. For the money, Yeti should microchip each one for free. _________________ Gary J

Personally, I have been very disappointed with Igloo products, of the last 12 years or so. They used to be the standard of the industry but they have really slacked off.
I do have a Yeti and have been very satisfied. More than ice retention, I prefer it for the durability, not worried about standing on it even if you're a big guy.
For most needs I feel that just a standard cooler will do. If you are opening the cooler all the time the ice retention of the premium coolers is still not very good. So for a day trip I do not feel that it is worth the money. Besides that you don't have to worry much about the POS stealing your cheaper cooler. |

The chip isnt the issue. Who is going to read it and with what? There is no commonly accepted RF standard for the devices (chips and readers), yet. How would Yeti ever know who owned the cooler? They sell in mass to retailers and distro co's. And usually never see the end user. The data has to be put on the chip, correctly. Great folks work at Academy, Cabelas, etc. but I dont trust them to get the imprint right. What about if you sell one? A e-rewrite chip is expensive.
Technology and production scale is about 2-3 years away. Really cool solutions to the "thief and pawnshop problem" are coming. |

Agree, the durability of the Yeti is outstanding! I think they are over priced though when compared to the Igloo Yukons! I just picked up a used Yukon 150 qt. It'll be used for standing on for casting or for several people going fishing on a weekend. Otherwise, my Igloo Marine does the trick. I still wouldn't like if the freaking thief(ves) stole the Igloo Marine! Personal property violation and I would feel threatened for my safety and would have to protect myself and property at all cost with a Browning! _________________ Live to Fish... Fish to Live
