Baffin was really stirred up. I don't think it was brown tide but the water was chocolate milk. The SE winds were at 25+ most of the day and night. Fishing was tough. First day we tried both free line croaker and shrimp, nothing to show for it. I believe things will get better there once the winds lay down. The salinity levels are improving after getting some much needed rain the last week or so. There were even a few porpoises that followed our boat, which hopefully means the bait fish are in the bay.
The next day we got out of baffin and headed down to the land cut. I had never been down that far on the laguna side. It was gorgeous. Water was calm, clean, and clear. The tide was up and you could see the tailing reds in the grass flats. We ended up with 2 slot reds and a limit of trout. Even got a bonus sheepshead! Great day on the water back home by noon. It was well worth the long boat ride! |
