For Shame!!! Shocked Shocked

She is so cute. How could you even think of eating her? [With some wasabi, or maybe with some fresh asparagus....... But I digress].

UTMSI tried a similar thing a number of years ago with a bunch of lemonfish that came in with a big influx of Sargassum. Same thing with the dolphin, they grow really fast, but are murder trying to keep corralled in a tank.

Good luck to your pet......... [knife sharpening sounds in the background] Cool

She's definitely what I would call a high-maintenance pet. I will be headed to the water after work again today to find some more fresh victims. On the bright side, I'm slowly getting better at throwing a cast net.

I wanted to do something special for my baby girl today, so I surprised her ...she LOVES her new school of silver mullet! She's been herding them around the tank, being careful with all the baby fish.

...wait, where are the others? Weren't there a bunch more just a second ago? Ah well, enjoy them girl!

You're going to need a bigger tank.

Hey Prof, what about some small live shrimp? Is she big enough yet? May be a good alternative on the days you don't want to drag a net. If I had a mini chrome aquatic vacuum cleaner at my house, I'd trying to get it to eat all kinds of stuff.

This is why I don't have pets, by the way.

Luke, she started out eating the shrimp that hide in the weed. As she grew she kept trying to eat larger shrimp, but she keeps getting their horn caught so they won't go down. She ends up struggling to spit them out. It's happened enough that she won't even eat the little ones anymore. Believe me, if there was an easier food source I would be feeding it to her. Only live fish, and pin perch are not desired if ANYthing else is available.

This morning half the school of silver mullet is still milling around, so I should have a day off from netting. ...I hope.

Keeping a baby sail would result in a visit by the game wardens, unless it was over seven feet in length...

Tonight I counted only four remaining mullet in the school. Wednesday I dropped nearly a hundred in the tank and she was really enjoying them. She says they're better than popcorn...

Tomorrow as I come in from the gulf I'll find her some more friends, and with luck I can video her eating them again. She's getting cramped in my glass box, but the Tx state aquarium says they will contact me soon about taking over her care. She's been a cool fish to host for a while. I'm not sure what fish could top this one, but my ten year old wants a "friendly" tank for a while (sea horses). I guess if the live bait is too small to see it clearly she doesn't mind hundreds of them getting consumed by the tiny horses. Looks like I'll be pulling the sein through turtle grass soon... Very Happy

Try to take another measurement, I'd like to know how much she's grown after consuming all those mullet.
