Could someone please explain to me why we keep having this reoccurring dense fog in the area? I'm a student @ TAMUCC, and while fishing has been slow this winter, I do still enjoy the outdoors. However lately it's been a nightmare with all this fog. My wife and I enjoy camping on the beach but with this much moisture in the air, it is impossible to go. I've lived here 2 years and I never remember the fog being this bad.

Can anyone please shed some light on:

1. What causes it
2. Where does it come from
3. When will it go away

Thanks for your help

warm air and cold water. Or warm water and cold air. I can never remember which.

Yes, it's normal. Been doing it since the 60's at least. Wink

rhart provided a really good guide, so I will spare you the science behind it.

But, given you have been here such a short period of time, let me tell you "You ain't seen nothing yet".

It gets way worse. One time as a kid, I remember driving out Staples and holding my head out the window to see the lines in the road so I knew I was still on the road! I actually got lost somewhere between Williams and Saratoga (granted Saratoga was a little 2 lane road and it was essentially the edge of town). Cool

My favorite sea fog always happens during Spring Break. In town, the sun will come out and all the youngsters head out to the beach only to be greeted by a blanket of sea fog that resides just behind the dune line. But they still will prance around in the fog, acting like they are not cold and miserable. (Oh wait, that was me when I was a young knucklehead Very Happy Very Happy ).

Does the fog dissipate during the day?

We often refer to this month as Foguary. This is normal and like CS said, it can get much worse.

It does happen every year right before it gets colder around here and right before spring when it starts to warm up.
