got an extremely late start
left the house at 1pm and finally got to a spot at 3pm (~13mm).
the water was a nasty brown but fairly flat.
I started digging a fire pit since I figured we would be staying out till after dark (didnt plan for the monster mosquitoes though)
The fiance started lining up pole holders and baiting lines (finger mullet).
He threw the first line out and roughly 10mins later the pole is bent over, I ran and grabbed it. Turns out it was a 23in red, my first one of the year and my first slot surf red. Didn't have any other bites for an hour. And then the tide came, and with it the weeds! Had 2 other bites (one got off or it could have just been all the weed) and the second was a huge hardhead (biggest ive seen in a while). Weed ended up snapping 3 lines so we started packing up so we could sit by the fire. Well the after fishing relax period was a bust because monster mosquitoes came out and we forgot the bug spray. Got the baby in the truck as fast as I could and the darn things swarmed the truck! Packed up and covered the fire and high tailed it out of there.

For the first trip of the year I will call it success, well at least for me Wink

I will say the a-hole from out of state who didnt bother to slow down as he was passing our camp is sure lucky I didnt have a pole in my hand or he would have had a busted window. Luckily little man was in front of the truck trying to dig a hole. But boy did that sure piss me off!!

I assume you filled in that enormous hole that you dug so that future travelers do not disappear into it!

thats what I thought, but they were monsters! they swarmed us and the truck then promptly decided to try and suck the life out of the exterior of the truck as well!

For once I did not pack the truck and only packed the clothes. I haven't really been out since thanksgiving. I generally have an overpacked gear box with everything we could need. So chances are there was bug spray someplace but I wasn't gonna try looking with nickle sized bugs Wink
Heck we had one latch on to the windshield and took a mile ride down the beach with us on the way out.
