Hey yall,
my name is Tom. I'm brand new to the forum and somewhat new to Texas. I spent about a month in Corpus last year and had a great time. I'm planning to move out there from Arizona this week. Id love to meet some people to go fishing with. Maybe show me the ropes about fishing the gulf. I learned alot last year but still know little lol.
I have all my gear and am planning to get a yak. Itd be great to go out yakin with someone. Speaking of which i was thinking of picking up a pelican 8' yak on the way there. Its a sit on top yak. Is this an appropriate type for CC or do i need something longer.
Anyways, if any guys or gals have some time to go fishing with me and make a new friend, let me know!

Lots of guys in the area belong to TexasKayakFisherman.com as well as this forum. They are always going out fishing and would be a good source to learn the area and find some fishing buddies.

I'm from Houston living here for about 5 years now. I've been fishing on the yak ferociously for about two years in Laguna learning myself....I'm always looking for fishing partners....I'm the only idiot who carries a 14 foot kayak on a Toyota matrix....lol....you can always spot me near red dot and cosway...hit me up if your down for some fishing

that pelican kayak probably won't suit your needs for very long... I'd look at something in the 10-12 foot range. faster, more stable, more room to haul all your gear, etc.

best bet might be to scour the classifieds once you're down here and picked up a used one.

Yea on the kayak situation....i would have to say 12 plus....I've got from 10ft....useless unless you like to workout or it's a calm day....12 foot is a huge improvement...on cutting through waves on a windy day.....but ill be honest.....14 foot sold me...I'm your weight and hight....and the amount of speed I get from mine is amazing even on a windy day......

here in CC you just never know about the winds.....One minute all flags are dropped and the next your in perfect sailing weather..

i strongly recommend 12ft plus

Same as the others I started with a 10 foot and liking to fish the gulf went to a 14.So much better and so much more storage and rigging available on the longer yak.
