This week Wednesday and Thursday I get to spend 2days with my oldest daughter coming in from Virginia. We plan to fish every minute of our time together. My only problem is I have been blanked the last 2 months of fishing in the Portland area. I have fished the back bay Nueces by the platform rigs, by the bridge, by the timbers and pile ons from the old bridge, the grass flats, and just have not had any luck. I am still learning my way around the various bays, I have had one slightly successful trip to Pita Island, on very unsuccessful trip to Nighthawk bay, a semi successful trip to Packery channel north of the bridge of SPID, one not so successful trip to Shamrock, got stuck in Brown and Root flats in AP, non successful trip to Dagger Island. The last time I got into a good mess offish was in Rockport at Traylor Island in the summer.
So with that said, if anyone can give me some guidance of places that are easy to find with any markers that would help, which are holding fish, I would greatly appreciate the help as I would like to break my string of crappy luck and put her on some fish. I have 2 days so I only hope I can do so. I have a Dargel 185 skout so it gets me to most places I want to go, I avoid heavy water, running upwind in heavy chop in this boat sucks so I tend to watch how far I go and try to find places not too far away from a ramp.
Feel free to PM as I am sure you may not want details of your favorite spots posted.

Drum have been fair game from Packery to the piers under the causeway. Thanksgiving break gave everybody full stringers. With this next front rolling in fishing should be prime by Saturday. Try an evening fish at one of the spots mentioned. Good luck. In any case you get to spend some QT with your daughter.

thanks, do you use peeled shrimp by chance? I have tried fish bites but no luck other than hardheads, so it may have just been bad timing. I have been thinking about peeled shrimp if I can keep the perch off the line. That and the grass from the tide has made it not so successful the last time I was there, but maybe I will try that spot in the evening.

Shrimp was the meal of choice. I caught on both peeled and unpeeled.

I usually fish the surrounding area near pita island and I catch lots of trout on soft plastics, not very many keeper trout mostly 12-14 inches but it's still fun and I usually manage two keepers at least in the 15-17 inch range, drift around with a sock if you have one and you should run into some fish. Two and a half weeks ago the family and I went out to packery channel anchored down on the flats side of the channel casting into the channel where the big houses are at, caught Drum, Trout, and Reds. The drum were hitting live shrimp, trout and reds were hitting live mullet. Some trout also caught on live shrimp. Free line some shrimp or mullet into the channel, if nothing hits try adding a sliding sinker and fish the bottom, it worked for us. Good Luck misterwill, I know the feeling of wanting to take the daughter out and putting her on some fish, I'm a dad too and luckily my daughter has not only caught some nice fish but grown to love the sport as well. It's a great feeling.

Yes sir Mr Mece, it is a good feeling, I love that she loves to fish and lives for adventures on the water. I appreciate the input, and the advice an old friend gave me today, Mr Big Red, I hope your foot heals and I will be adhering to your skillful advice as well as keeping your spot secret. I hope it works out for us. More than likely I will hit up the channel on Thursday when I have more time as my time Wednesday is somewhat limited so will be trying a spot closer to home then.

Well how did the trip go? Even if the catching wasn't good spending time with the family is priceless.

Fishing the channel was rough, lots of grass and the current was too strong. Better fishing in AP near an island I won't divulge but will share with you in private. We caught some fish but no keepers but was happy we caught fish, and had a great time on the boat.
