| Good thing we rented a nice river house. Friday morning we got a good blow and rain. Fished the pass Thursday. Only caught hard heads but managed a few nice gaff-top catfish. After the front blew through Friday, we fished the surf about 5 miles down the island and caught 2 nice reds. It impressed me how much bigger a 45 inch red is than a 43 inch red. We must have 35 or 40 lbs of fillets. I live in East Texas now just across the Sabine from Tyler. I drove as straight down as possible going through Palestine, Crockett, Bellville then down to Matagorda. I cant believe that beef is so expensive. It seemed that every pasture had way to many cows. The nicest leg of the journey was between Palestine and Crockett. I'm ready to go back. L |

| Thanks for the report. Glad you caught some fish. I'm curious how the water was and if the grass was gone. The tides have been running high all along the coast. How was the driving. |

Not at Matagorda but just finished fishing for two months up the coast at Freeport/Quintana. Grass/weed was never a problem the whole of October and November. Surf was very good with sharks, reds, black drum, some nice size golden croaker and a few pomps. Still trying to give away some of the fish as we do not have room in our freezer for all the filets.
We used to fish at Matagorda but a few years ago we discovered the campground at Quintana run by Brazoria County and really liked it. Nice people and you can walk right up to the surf if you want for fishing, etc. Jetties are close and there is a small but productive pier right next to the park. Not as new or spiffy as the LCRA campground at Matty but folks are a lot nicer and the fishing can be outstanding with easy beach access. The county also has some rustic but scenic cabins at the park and in the neighborhood are several rentals. I would suggest if you want an out of the way surf expedition you consider Quintana Beach. _________________ Mike |
