Maybe just me, but I've never found it necessary to keep more than a limit of reds from the beach. Not that I have a problem with those that do, but with the mixed bags that one will catch on multiple day trips ( reds, trout, smacks, pomps, Blk drum ).... Why would a person need too?

As far as a PINS park ranger goes.....they can kiss my rebel ( fill in the blank) I will never give them consent to search anything in my vehicle!!! Bunch of damn NAZIS!

I'm with you on that one! They've needlessly harassed me and my family more than once.

The law reads somewhat vaguely. I asked a game warden in Baffin Bay once and he told me that he would prefer if you make an effort to separate yourself from the first limit while fishing. For example taking you first limit to the cooler at your vehicle before working on the 2nd limit.

Now that's a tough decision when you are far away from your launch. Once you stop fishing then it's no problem to have 2 limits.

Thanks for the replys, the answer to this question isn't as cut and dry as some think. I thought I would post a question on here for fisherman with experience, don't think most of us are professionals in the field or had a hand in writing the TPWD regulations. It's always good to get the answer from someone who has experienced it. We can all see that those that write the rules or claim responsibility for something doesn't always know how it works....how's that Healthcare Act working out for everyone?

Anyway, since I'm not a local and can't run my catch home, I thought I would throw it out there. If I can catch 5 reds in two days to take back to New Braunfels....I'll do it everytime...I don't think that's greedy, just getting my moneys worth for the trip.

Thanks again and see ya on the sand,
SportFisher

Add another layer of complexity to this conundrum-

From the Regs : "Possession limit is twice the daily bag on game and nongame fish, except as provided in this guide, and does not apply to fish in the possession of or stored by a person at their residence".

So, if I live in the Bluff, and catch a Daily Limit and run them home to my Residence for storage, can I go back out and get more? Laughing Cool . I'm not in possession of more than twice the daily bag, as those are now in the "safe zone" of my official residence. [To be read completely tongue-in-cheek, as to keep the flak from flying in my general direction]

I know youre just joking but that is clearly refering to the possession limit and not the daily bag. Daily bag still applies no matter where you may stick them during the day.

You are indeed correct, in recognizing my attempt at humor.

BUT.....

The possession limit "safe zone" of an official residence comes into play here. How does the GW know that the set of fish (1st daily bag) "at the residence" came from today, or when???? Because according to the Regs, the residence is not part of a place that they will inspect... Question Question

So my second set of fish for the day puts me within the bag limit?!?!?! Laughing

[Remember, this is all highly hypothetical]. Wink

Thanks, I think we all can read. Very Happy Has anyone actually had an experience where TPWD has checked you with more than a daily limit and was ok with you telling them it was two days worth of fishing? It seems like there would be a lot of abuse if you could possess twice the daily limit while still fishing.

Thanks,
SportFisher

I can't speak specifically to PINS or the GW, however we had a 3 day camping trip out East via boat where we hit the possession limits for Reds for a group of 5 (kids promised to clean them all is only reason I allowed it Laughing) and were checked by the TPWD survey guy at the ramp when we came back. No problems and he didn't mention anything out of the ordinary, just measure everything and such.

For PINS we have kept fish into possession limits a couple times when it's obvious we're on a multi-day trip (tons of camping gear, etc) but have never actually been checked.
