Things are real busy here this morning but I know all of you are waiting for an honest beach report so I'm going to post this abbreviated one and a full report will be available later at www.friendsofpadre.com The sargassum is BAD the entire length of the beach except about a mile N of the Port Mansfield Jetties. As bad as I have ever seen at this time of year and there is plenty more coming in. Much of it is unfishable. Some areas you can grind out Spanish macks and reds if you work hard at it. My impression is that the grass is not going anywhere anytime some. Driving is o.k. although much weeds covers areas of the beach. Figured you are better off knowing the truth that having unrealistic expectations. Good luck to every body and be safe and take care of each other down there. See you at the weigh in. Capt. Billy

Sounds like Sharkathon is going to be a tough one this year.

I was just about to post on my general observations about the amount of weed in late Sep/Oct, and how I simply can't remember a year like this one where it just won't go away, but the Honorable Cap't Sandifer beat me to it.

It runs in 5 year or so cycles, but I just can't remember a year when it kept on coming and coming over the entire summer.

How long does the bull red run out in the surf normally last?

Well look at the up side.... At least you aren't working and if in fact you catch something you will be doing really well this weekend. Good luck to you. Stop and say hey if you see me.

So this morning I left at 7:30 to do a little recon on the beach. Three hours there. Three hours back. Yes, some of us are that sick when it comes to Sharkathon. So I get to the beach, come over the hill, and am greeted with that image of-- endless weed. The ONLY time I've seen STACKS of it and MATS of it this thick was last May-- and that was only from the 20 north. I went to 35 and got so aggravated I turned around, realizing it wasn't going to change my plans...and then wondering why I took a freakin day to make the drive. And then I had a Tow Boat Trash moment. I was at the beach, in my truck, by myself...no rods or reels, no camera other than my cell phone. And all was well with the world. I had a blast beach combing, smelling the surf, soaking in some tunes and just LOVING this beach. It was all good. And then I got home and saw this thread!! Very Happy Would've saved me a day. But then again, I caught something. A renewed love for our Texas coast. FISH ON FRIENDS.... I'll be there this weekend with rods blazing even if I don't catch a durned thing.

Cool

Sure are many ways to look at things. Sometimes you just have to make lemonade with those lemons.

Good luck to all who are fishing...

Good that we can count on you, Billy, to give an honest report.
Saw you at Lowes to few days ago, hope the work is going well.
