.
Took the old Lew's BB1N with me to this morning...The reel is probably older than a lotta subscribers to this fine site...
.
T'was a time when these were 'Top o the Line', and for a price of $99, pretty darn expensive in the 80's...

.
Still smooth as silk, but HEAVY (it'll wear an old guy out)...

Back on the shelf old friend...G

Nice I have a Lew's speed stick spinner bait Rod from about 1974. I even remember the model number 1-159HOBB . Thanks for showing it off.

Just curious, but are those 3BB reels marketed on Ebay a Lew's product. I've tried to google them but all I get is more Ebay ads.

That's a nice reel. Good to see it still get some use.

The flagship of my few old reels is a Garcia 5500C (High Speed red sticker on the sideplate) produced 1978 in a rich silver/grey. Last time it went out for a spin was on the South Jetty. I put in on a old rod I built from a 70s era, honey-colored Fenwick Flippin' Stick blank - 7 1/2 ft. Was gratified to C&R a 39 inch red that night on 30-year-old gear.

Nice looking reel. I can remember most of the Laguna Guides I fished around in the late 80's had 4 of these waiting for their experienced customers. I always had the cheaper 5000 or 5500C Garcias and still use the same ones today. Smile

Yep the BB1N, and the BB1NG, are classic, and considered top of the line at their time. Match that with the All Star Shrimp Tail Classic and you had a great combo. Still would be a good outfit.

The real old ones say Shimano on the side plate, if I'm not mistaken.

You Should have had a retired lure attached such as a bingo. Old lure, old reel and old man on the other end. LOL
