I caught TWO cobia (unusual for me) and enjoyed the company of a big manta ray after battling the wind and weed all morning.

You make it look all too easy. Something is missing here - the agony of paddling all the way out against the wind or something.
Two keeper ling - Sweet. |

| I paddle more than anyone I know, but that four miles into strong winds was no joke! Fish or no fish, a day kayaking the gulf is fun, and the manta ray was icing on the cake. |

| From your posts, I would have to agree, you paddle more than most, if not everyone. My guess is you catch as many fish as most anyone as well. Keep the posts coming. |

They aren't that common for most of the year, but it seems that they show up as the anchovies begin to migrate. I think they show up for the free meal, and I always enjoy their curiosity around the kayak.
Last summer I spent over an hour with a group of eight, give or take, as they rolled around on the surface near the south jetty. It was awesome. |

Great report Prof. Brought back my 30 year old memory of a manta circling Bob Hall one day. Very cool. |

| It's a Malibu Extreme and is 15 feet. I like it for the carrying capacity and stability, but the hatches leak so I carry a manual pump to keep the hull dry. |
