The pic posted by Rick now that's what I'm talking about. That's a real hasp. No one is going to cut through that. The other hasp snip snip with a set of bolt cutters. If you could heat treat the steel to an RC 60 that would be the wtg. Maybe I should start fabing hasps for Yeti coolers out of 1/2 inch stainless. Idea

17-4 in H.T. condition H900 would be pretty tough and rust resistant.

Funny you should mention that, when I get back to the shop I was planning on heat treating it to H900.

Whenever I get a machine out of production for a night I'll try to make a few extras.

Hey IMS would a 3/4" craftsman open end wrench bent at a 90 be strong enough to beat most bolt cutters?

I've seen them used before and was wondering how difficult they would be to cut?

Thanks Jason Slocum

I don't see why not. Thickness is the key. In order for a set of good bolt cutters to do any good on something real hard one usually has to set one handle on the ground and push the other handle down with both hands or put a knee on it to get some real pressure going.

Easy.... 1/8 MILD STEEL plate has no hardness rc 0. Bring a piece over I'll show you. No problemo. Steel is my life. Now if you have it against a wall or a bulldozer where I can't get cutters of course you can't cut it thats simple logic. I use my bolts cutters all the time to cut 1/8 strap steel its quicker than breaking out the chop saw.

At the price of a Yeti, they should come with serial numbers and a satellite tracking chip. I have to admit, if I saw one one the side of the road., I would stop and get it. Probably my best chance of getting a yeti cause I ain't gonna spend my money on one !

I posted about a satellite tracking chip just the other day. It's called the Tile. Epoxyed to the back of the cooler, most people wouldn't have a clue what it was.

The Tile wouldn't work. It's range is only a couple hundred feet.

Is a yeti really worth all this for the normal situation? One large bag of ice in an Igloo last all day for me when fishing or camping. Just curious. Smile I have never seen one at the flea market here in Corpus or Bob's tackle, still looking though. Wink

They are worth it for some people and they aren't worth it for others.

The pro's and con's must be weighed personally for each cooler looker forer.

I don't think it's worth the money to spend over $5,000.00 like a lot of people do to lift your 4x4 six inches when you'll never need it that way. But, a lot of people do exactly that and it's worth it to them.
