Definitely something we may have to keep an eye on the middle of next week. _________________

Latest models are bending more south....maybe a greater chance of it coming into the Gulf rather than going up the East coast. This may be one we need to watch.

No time like the present to be looking for things like plywood, water, canned goods - i.e. getting/being prepared. I live in the Kerrville area and we are watching too. I have some porch roof panels which are loose and need to be secured if we were to get any blow.

Accuweather says it has weakened but will strengthen again - it is over increasingly warm water and the Gulf is Very Warm. Any storm that impacts Hispaniola and Cuba gets torn apart - they protect Texas quite well. Whatever gets past Cuba I hope is weak , but comes to rain on South Texas. We need the rain. I am by no means wishing CC any damage though - just lots of rain ala July 2002 (well sort of - we had 52 inches of rain at my house the week of 2 July that year)

This is going to be my first hurricane season. I've lived landlocked my entire life until moving to Corpus in Jan. We're on the bluff.
As far as general survival stuff, I'm pretty good. I could abandon ship with all the meds, food, water, etc, I need. I have maps printed of the area and evac routes, and a sweet world radio, etc.
We've been planning on getting some plywood and pre-cutting it. I know we need to look at the yard and take care of things that have UFO potential.
What sources of information are best to follow??? My biggest concern is that while we're both naive to this kind of stuff, if poo poo really goes down it's gonna be all me. My husband is public safety so he basically will not be able to help me at all. Not a big deal, but I'm a lil lady, I have no idea what I'm doing in regards to coastal living, and we have 3 large dogs and a cat to worry about also. I have a punchy little camry.
Any recommendations? Tips? Tricks? I guess right now my thought is, if it sounds kinda concerning my plan a) is I'll start packing up and making way inland, and tent camp somewhere or stay at a Motel 6. I'm not working so I can be pretty flexible.
Then there's Plan z.9) (poo poo really hits the fan) - involves setting our canoe on top of the roof and tethering it (with ability to cut quickly). Loading up animals in crates in the canoe, and as many supplies as reasonable, throwing on the good ol PFD and helmet, pass out the rawhides and start praying to Sailor Jerry. |

Having ridden out quite a few hurricanes and typhoons over the years, lets just say I certainly "hope it does not come down to Plan z.
Just use common sense and watch any storm that enters the Gulf. Stick with the National Weather Service for up-to-date information, and have Plans A-Y in your back pocket. (Having a Plan is really 1/2 the battle). Don't listen to those nut-jobs on the radio that claim the "Gub-ment can steer a hurricane through HAARP or whatever nonsense they are peddling for you to buy there "survival wares". If you do have to evacuate (a storm would REALLY have to be on a bullseye course for the 'Bluff for me to evacuate), just remember that I-37 is going to be a parking lot. Get your supplies early, because nobody likes standing in line for a $30 sheet of 1/2 plywood!
But conventional wisdom says that we ought to be good for another year. Once the storm names get past "C", they never hit the Corpus area. Plus, any storm that enters the Gulf north of Cuba has very limited chances of coming close to here.

I wish they could skip up over the coast and come inland to dump some rain...
cant remember the last time we got trop. rains.
something would have to form down in the Bay of Campeche now to hit the Mid/lower coast....
real hard for an Atlantic storm to thread thru the Carib Is.
possible, tho. _________________ the creepy uncle that scares the kids....

Most likely going to go away - maybe it will reform in the Bay of Campeche as a CAT 1 with lots of rain for us. WE ARE DUE THOUGH!!!
