Quit your whining if you don't know the story.

1st, everyone knows hammers often die during the fight.

Hammer was caught by my boy. He fought for 2 hours on my Daiwa 40sha after it hit a redfish bait. We were on the rocks and it died after about 2 hour fight, he finally pulled the dead weight up to the jetty and it snagged deep on the rocks and we couldn't get it out. After daylight I kayaked out and retrieved it. Shark sat in 84 degree water overnight, stunk like hell in the morning and meat was no good. No harm in taking jaws since it's already dead, took fin samples too but still waiting on where to send them.

I love ppl that have never killed a fish while fishing.Do I believe in killing game unnecessarily, NO, but it happens in fishing. If you don't like it don't fish. It happens, Get over it. If the fish was already dead what does it matter if a "child" wanted the jaws from a fish that was dead and he spent 2+hours fighting the night before.
I guess if I see a massive deer skull laying on my property I ought to just leave it where it lay.

The effort was made. Not much else you can do with a rancid shark that died after a long fight and got stuck on the jetty. Kudos for trying and congrats to your son. A big hammer on a daiwa 40 is like killing a grizzly with a Daisy Red Rider.

Anybody know anything about a big hammer that some ....suckers took the jaws out of? I'm all for taking a trophy, maybe just snag a tooth, but for christ's sake! These frittatas should be flogged repeatedly with man-o-war tentacles. This is all hearsay, but I want to see them sniffed out and publicly scorned.

Time to start beating yourself about the head and face with your own man-o-war tentacles.

The whole event sounds epic. That is a fish story that will last his lifetime and maybe longer.

It was 8'4". Here's a couple pics, you can see how pink the flesh is and the bruising on the side. Fish obviously sat out in the water way too long to be salvageable.

Many apologies Josh. Embarassed Perhaps the credibility of the source should be brought into question. Congratulations to your boy. I was informed that it was a live hammer that was left out, and it was made out to be far more sheisty.
I probably deserve the flogging for jumping the gun. I just happen to be a shark sympathizer, and have witnessed several instances of intentional shark killing and subsequent jaw thievery.

Again, congrats to you and your boy.

Nice fish gotta admit it's happened to me as well while I was stationed in Pearl Harbor a couple years back the same size too took about 1:45 - 2:15 hrs and he ended up dying as well. Good fight though!
None the less good hook up!
