Headed down from San Antonio around 2am with some high hopes of catching fish. I had been monitoring the wind predictions and water temperature all week and saturday looked like the perfect day to go. Arrived at the jetties a little bit before sunrise to get to a favorable spot. Plus there isnt any sunrise like a packer channel sunrise in my opinion.

Got to our spot, the surfside water looked an amazing greenish clear and the channel side was a nasty chocolate milk color. My father and my buddy were fishing the channel side and i tried my luck on the surfside. No immediate bites like always but i figured once the water warmed up it the bite would turn on. Sure enough when the water warmed up and the channel sided cleared up the bite was on (no action on the surfside at all). My buddy was able to land 2 black drum back to back in a matter of 10 minutes but he also lost 3. Than later on I hooked up to a nice red and than my buddy lands a smaller drum a little bit after. Last fish of the day because we ran out of bait (free-lining live shrimp) was a sheephead that i landed. All in all it was an eventful trip to remember, and as far as i could tell we were the only ones consistently catching good fish so i guess we got a little lucky.
