Hit the back bays of Baffin this morning with my daughter trying to find a few fish for her to reel in. Ten minutes after launching, a mess of Flippers show up. While it was pretty cool to have dolphins (porpoises?) swimming ten or fifteen feet away from the kayak, the fact that all of the fish hunkered down or took off for points elsewhere kinda killed it. Fished from 0600 ish to about 1000 and finished with a giant skunk on the yak. Oh well, maybe tomorrow!

The dolphin, ARE, neat to watch, and put on a heck of a show. Your point about the fishing is well made. When they show up, most times, the fishing shuts down.
Hope your daughter still had a good time. Thanks for the Baffin report.

Hey!!! I think I saw you this morning, were you in a blue tandom? I was beached up on the sadbar with a friend that I just convinced to but a kayak.

Yea the dolphin pretty much ended our trip from the beginning too. We crossed the bay around 4am and had quite a shock as we ran into them feeding. We managed only a couple keepers by noon.

Dolphins are a nuisance! Overpopulating and restricting my trout fishing! If they're around pull up your stringers. My dad got into a tussle last time we were out and they snagged a few trout off his stringer and tossed a giant wave onto him.

It's also breeding time for them.

Yes, that was us out in the blue tandem. She got lucky and I didn't make her peddle us around.

I was going to swing by and say hi, but she was ready to call it a day. I'm out there every week or two. Say hi if you get a chance.

I wonder if the fact it's breeding season has anything to do with the dolphins being back there where I've never seen them...
