Hello all are there any disabled anglers that view this board? Ones that may be having troubles at local fishing piers , boat ramps, etc. That are having trouble with the ammenities provided for or not provided them? Please contact me and I will put you in touch with a board member that is trying to help deal with some local access issues. Because everyone deserves the right to fish. Thanks, IMS _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

What I need is someone who is in a wheelchair that has to stay at home because so many local places were designed by someone who walks around and can reach everything. Bob Bobber is working with the city on this, his heart and goals are in the right place. I know we sorta gave him a hard time on the trashcan issue. Sometimes when trying to express yourself on paper it does not always come out as well as if I wrote it. ( ha ha ) that's an IMS joke. My spelling sucks and so does my puncuation, but that's my fault for starring out the window day dreaming about fishing instead of doing my school work. I have sat down an had some conversation with the man....and he's a good man. We should welcome him back to the board and read his stuff with an open mind. I know my stuff is more action packed and fun to read but he is really trying to do some good. And I'm going to send him a bill for this. Oh, and I will do what I can do to aid him on this mission of his because it must really suck to be bound to a wheel chair or anything that would impair our fishing rights. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

Cheers to both of yall. Oh. Last time I went by that ramp the trash can was moved and chained next to the sign. So whoever is responsible for that.. Thank you for helping out others who may be less fortunate in their mobility. _________________ Chris Gonzales |

Not to hijack the thread or anythin, I think it's great what y'all are doing but... What if we took it a step further and started offering to take the less fortunate, crippled and elderly fishing with us? I know I don't post a lot and when I do it's a boring report with no pics or a controversial report because I was stupid and ventured offshore in dangerous conditions and took a "not so popular" board member with me. But I do fish almost every day and usually manage to catch at least a few fish. I would love to share my adventures with those who may not be able to fish at all without my help. I know a lot of y'all have boats and often times go out with plenty of room for another person or two. I don't have a boat but I do have an extra kayak and would be honored to take someone out who otherwise wouldn't get to go. As far as the disabled go who can't paddle a kayak, I would be happy to take them to the beach and help them around, I'll even paddle shark baits out for them. Think of the old man at the nursing home with no friends or family left who looks at fishing magazines all day with only the dream of being able to get out there just one more time. We could make his day! What do y'all think? Anyway sorry again for the hijack I just thought maybe while we were at it we could personally "give back" a little. _________________ Jake |

You took He who shall not be mentioned with you!!!
Thanks to BobBobber for his efforts to make things better. We all know something we can do to make things better for someone else, but we don't always take the time to do it. We don't always have to make a big deal out of it, just do it.
When I lived down there, I had a buddy with cerebral palsy that I would take fishing and to the beach when some fanfare was going on. I would tie his wheelchair in the back of the truck and ride him up and down the beach. Man, he would squeal and screech like a little girl back there. 'Course, the dude got more chest shots than anyone I ever knew. Karma is awesome! |

I think it was a more recent " not so popular" guy. Close enough though _________________ Great captains, the stuff of legend, are made not by what they have caught, but by what they have given back. |

Sorry, I digress again.
I think it's a shame that we don't have handicap access at a lot of places. I'm not disabled necessarily, but sort of. I need a new right shoulder. It comes out very easily and I have to wear this special brace (I call it my bra) which prevents it from popping out. That being said, I can't paddle a Kayak and therefore, cannot paddle a He who shall not be mentioned or fish the bay like I used to. It sucks big time, so I know how these folks feel in a small way. It's a very worthwhile endeavor to help them out. I like it. _________________ Fish hard. You never know when you'll make you last trip south. |
