I've seen a few Bowmans up for bid on ebay this past Februuary. A couple were sill in the box with paperwork. I'm always checking for PICOs
from time to time I'll let you know if I see anymore Bowmans.
ST | I have never seen a Bowman in a box and never heard of their paperwork. I guess I will do a search and see if I can find the completed auctions. |

A few of my favorite plastic Pico Lures. Notice the Pico Shrimp, very rare. It is a Nichols Shrimp that was left over from the Nichols Lure Company that had not been sold before the company changed hands. PICO is stamped across the tail. That is the only way to know it is Pico and not Nichols. The Southwest Airline Lures came off ebay 10+ years ago. |

| Two of the Bowman lures pictured look like the rear hooks are attached to an extended hanger. I'd expect it gives the lure a different action. I've never heard of Bowman and really appreciate the info here. |

I have been told these three lures were hand carved by Doug English. Two are plastic and the brown one is made out of wood. The brown one came from an estate sale here in Corpus 3 or 4 years back. There were lots of lures at this estate sale and I was a little late for those. This lure was found in a coffee can in the garage on a shelf. I think I ended up with the best one there! |

I remember a couple of those slash head Pico lures in Grampa's box...
not sure where they are now
he had those and Hula's and Jitterbugs.. all the classics
50 yr old bass classics...
IIRC he used an Abu spincast...
he was a crusty ol guy...
loved baseball, but said football was nothing more than a d*** dogfight
when he was a young man, he hunted Camp Bullis NW of SA.
he'd climb an oak tree and ambushed a few jaw-dropper bucks w/his 30-30
taugh me german cuss word and always chewed Tinslys block tobacco. _________________ the creepy uncle that scares the kids.... |

Early Hump Chubbies with the "Magic" eye. Notice the white mold that grows on old plastic lures for some reason. These lures were before the painted eye model. |

Just found this thread again and saw you were asking about a hump lure. The one you're asking about is a Hump M 13. It does have a purple hue to it. Again, I apologize for the long delay in responding. |

The three lures you have that represent a fish are Humps made by Earl Humphrey's in El Campo. The shrimp lure is a Pluggin Shorty shrimp that was made by Doug English, the "Bingo" guy.
At least that's what they look like to me
gulftrout is a big time collector, he know alot about them and the manufacturers time and location.
You sure have kept them in good shape
ST | You are pretty much correct, with one exception. The white Hump lure was made in Houston by Bingo Baits. |
Well crap I almost got it right, leave it to someone in Houston to mess it all up.
I've been collecting PICO Perch but made in Corpus Christi only. Found some new in the box with paperwork the other day.
ST |
How can you tell which ones were made in Corpus? Since they bought bodies from multiple sources I have never found a code chart or for that matter many markings on any of them.
Thanks. |

Great thread... I've been to waaaay too many garage sales with my old man growing up in search of antique lures. Hopefully one day his collection will be mine! _________________ "I never had an Easter, but I've always had a bunch of speakers" - Beardo |

Drake, the easiest way I've found is that the Doug English Bingos made in CC will have an exposed weight on the underside around the chin. Lettering is also different. Has gaps in the letters like old typewriter print.
Humps, like Gulftrout said have the model number on them. Almost always on the left side. Houston Humps have name in all caps on both sides of the lure. |
