Any one else have problems with 50 mg reels. Im on my fourth one in a year. Never submerged, never rinsed with water just wiped down with corrosion x after each trip. First one developed a tick, second started corroding, third one had a button that would not snap back after casting, and now my new one has a problem with the anti reverse. I know shimanos bay reels are sensitive but damn Ive got 7 year old curados that have caught 30 pound kings, slammed around offshore, dropped in water and still run smooth. I think im about to go to the japenese shimano's "Scorpions". Id really be alot more pissed off but academy keeps switching them out for me. I miss the green curado's. Anyone fish the scorpions. Any suggestions?

Despite what Shimano claims, magnesium and saltwater just don't mix well. I've used the Shimano Scorpion (Model 1500) and Metanium XT (Japanese version of Chronarch) reels in the salt for the last 5 years without any problems.

If you like the smaller size reel, I think the Scorpion 1000 is similar to the MG reels.

Amen to the Mg and saltwater dont mix. I bought one last year and after less than a month it corroded so bad that it had a hole in the sideplate. Wow is all I have to say. I swapped it out at Academy "Rent-A-Center" for a Curado 100D. They are the exact same rell other than the frame is not Mg. It is only 2 ounces heavier, I believe. I ahve not had any problems with the Curado. If you can get a Curado 100DSV, that would be better. Deep Spool Version holds quite a bit more line.

Between my buddies and I, we have returned 12 mg's this year.
We are having the same problems. We are mostly getting holes on them from the two different types of metal. We just got picked up by Daiwa, hope they will last.

Look at the bottom of the curado's. They have three holes in the bottom plates. Talk about picking up water and sand. Foe 199.00 not worth the money. Osolonghorn

My fishing partner likes the Citicas(sp) So much that he now has 6 or 8, not sure, but he's using them in place of the green curados.

I use Diawa Coastal and Abu Garcia Revo's... great inexpensive, durable reels. I just sold the last two green curado's I owned and have one new curado that I hardly use. Shimano reels have given me too many problems.

I am to hard on reels and curados are too touchy. Have gone thru 3 curados in a year. Using a coastal right now and think I will go and get another one. Very Happy

I have used a 50mg for almost a year and a half now and have had very few problems. In fact, the only problem I have encountered is slight corrosion between the clutch plate and the frame. Good, light, smooth reel, but if anyone was going to drop 250 bones on a reel, I recommend the Daiwa Zillion. The Zillion is an absolute bad supple bum. Also, for the angler that favors a round profile reel, try out the Diawa Luna. These reels are tough.

It might be worth it to take a look at the Quantum line of reels. One, there is no bail spring they use magnets instead, so no springs to break or weaken. The finish is developed for salt and should hold up. Quantum is part of Brunswick also the maker of Mercury outboards and the technique for the finish on the reels is the same as they use on the motor lower units. I would expect it to hold up. I have had mine for sevreal weeks and have fished it hard.So far it looks like it just came out of the box. My .02

I use to be a die hard Shimano man, but when I bought a Daiwa Coastal I was hooked. I now own two Daiwa Coastals, two Daiwa Lunas, one Daiwa Advantage and I'm about to invest in a Zillion. Daiwas have less parts, better bearings and are built tough.

It mainly boils down to how one takes care of your equipment....Got my 1st Curado 6yrs ago & its only been to Roys once for bearings cus I pressure washed it...Live n learn.
