That guy is going to want a different truck. Now that this one is marked it is doomed. Would not want to drive that thing anywhere. It's likely he will have a hard time selling it. If he's lucky, he was at least once, someone will steal it.

Nice post, FD.

Am I still the only one scratching their head on this one?

Thief steels stuff - caught red handed. Cops come. Thief walks away....because... WHY?

Because the victims took their stuff back from the truck? (I wouldn't have done until the cops got there - its evidence) Because the cop knew the kids and cut them a break? Because...WHY?!

Is there any more information regarding whether somebody is following up with the negligence of the police?

At the bare minimum, this should be published in the caller times.

Forwarded RedHead's initial post to David Sikes and Mike Baird first thing this morning with the following note:
Quote:
I thought the two of you would like to follow up on this story from Tyler's website, particularly to learn why the CCPD didn't arrest the thieves. Some of the comments on the thread about the cops' actions suggest the public should be made aware of the reasons.

Contact them and others you may know at the Caller-Times if you want more info. A LTTE would be cool, too. And, I think the Police Chief has a complaint line that might help settle this issue.

I hope the pool supply outfit knows what an upstanding individual they have working for them.
My guess on why they were not taken into custody is the police did not see the stuff in the truck. If the stuff would have been in the truck they probably could have impounded the truck.

IDK, but my trail of panko crumbs just ended in some hot peanut oil. Flounder, the other white meat.

Jerry - doesn't make sense. If this were true then they would never arrest shoplifters caught at Walmart, H.E.B., etc... The shoplifters are under store custody, separated from the stolen goods (under store control), and in the back office when the cops arrived. Yet the cops don't tell Walmart that they don't have probable cause - they arrest on the spot. The cops had plenty of PC to arrest.

Another example. Search warrants and arrest warrants must be based of Probable Cause or the judge will not grant them. Enumerable search warrants are issued on the basis of a cops affidavit stating that they have received information from a confidential source that they believe to be credible. The legal standard for probable cause is extremely low. Plenty of PC in Walmart or H.E.B. - yet these cops have no PC when the thieves were caught red handed by regular citizens? I'm absolutely not buying it. Something just does not smell right in the cop shop. Additionally lots of arrest warrants are issued under the same circumstances described above for search warrants.
