Biggest was late one night back near the OSO and the old power plant spill way. We stopped off the side of the road there. I had picked up some sea lice from the t-head and was just fishing from the bank there. 52" on a little browning spooled me all the way down and some how I got that thing back in. I need to dig out that picture. Must have been around 1997-1998.. _________________ High On Smoke BBQ

Caught my personal best last year off PINS.
Measured out at 40+ inches and 28.5 lbs.
Sorry the picture ain't that great but I was fishing solo and in a hurry to record the measurements so I could get this fat bitsh back into the water. _________________ "Money will buy you a fine dog, but only love can make him wag his tail." - Kinky Friedman

red 45in...Fina docks. Live mullet. Had a double drop rig attached to her dorsal fin and mouth, in addition to my hook. Every time I'd pull, it would pull her sideways. Took me an hour to land that cow. Removed all the extra gear and released her to fight another day.
trout 32in...Bay side of fishpass. DOA shrimptail. Never seen my Sahara scream that way after I set the hook. Caught five over 25in that day. It's a day I won't soon forget.
flounder 31in...Oso bay. Live shrimp. It was so big I had to cut off the head and tail to fit her in the oven.(stuffed with crab of course)
drum many in the 40in range mostly caught in aransas pass channel _________________ 1.2.3,4,5. once i caught a fish alive.
6.7.8,9,10. so i let him go again. |

drum many in the 40in range mostly caught in aransas pass channel | A flounder 31". I feel pretty sure you cut the head off the State record. The state record is only 28". A 32" trout and five others over 25 inches. That sounds like some of the catches at the Portland Causeway during December of 1983. The late David Ganem was launching just as I was coming in one afternoon.(I had to go to work, darn the luck) I had caught my limit of reds(10) and had a dozen or so trout with the largest 8.89 lbs.(The limit on trout was 20 a day at the time) I know the exact weight because I weighed it in for a month long fishing contest at Dolphin Docks in Port Aransas. I was the winner for December at 8.89 lbs. The day before I had weighed in an 8.17 lb. speck. Back to David Ganem. Most everyone had been fishing the Corpus side of the causeway. On the front side you could have caught 100 in a few hours but the biggest was running around 3 lbs. David asked why I was fishing the Nueces side. I simply opened my box and all was quite. I told him the reef where I had found the largest ones and said, "This is the day we wait for our whole life." The next day I went to Davids restaurant and asked ' "Well how did it go?" He ushered me into the back and lifted the top of a 200 quart Igloo. Inside were nine of the largest specks I have ever see in my life. He said the largest was 9 1/2 lbs. and he just couldn't put a knife to them just yet. That day I could not have ever imagined a group of fish that large until I saw a few of Cliff Webb's pictures and mounts. Now that man knows big trout!

My largest trout to date has come out of Nueces Bay. This one weighed 9.25 lbs. I caught it 3 days after Thanksgiving back in Odem Bay(That's what I call anything past White Point) on the edge of a reef in the NE corner of the bay. I was taking a charter two days prior and had seen this fish. We had a really cold night the night before but the sun was shining brightly that day. I was paddling my client around the edges of several shallow reefs. I literally paddled right up on top of this fish. It must have been cold because it never spooked, just swam off slowely as both of us watched in amazement. I had a charter the next day and made sure I did not fish anywhere near this area. The following day, no charter so I went on a hunt. I paddled for 50 yards and anchored just within casting distance of the reef I had seen the monster at. After anchoring I took a deep breath and cast as far as I could. As soon as the shrimptail hit the water my rod was bent double!

Hiya!,
Mine was a 52" red I caught off BHP on Sept in the late 90s. Unfortunately I no longer have a picture of it as it was on a computer that was stolen out of my first apartment I lived in. I lost a lot of great photos. _________________ FISH ON!!,
