The pic don't do that beast justice. I was out there with my two boys
when it was landed. I too thought it was a redfish at first.
Congratulations on your personal best.

On a good day of platform fishing (within 20 miles ) we'll get 7 or 8 mangroves that size. The 26 fathom rigs whats left of them used to hold good mangroves, we chum with sardine and freefloat a whole one to fish with, 50 lb fluroro leaders, they break hooks, knots, and reels. Some we've hooked are real brutes maybe 12 - 15 lbs. All the wrecks like the liberty ships have mangroves I'm sure. There are more big mangroves than we think out there, but that one you got is a hog for the jetties, well done.

Very nice fish bro! The one that I caught on the end of the west Destin jetty a couple of months back was about that size, what a fight!!!! Shocked

Watch those gill covers.................. I got two razor slices two days apart on adjacent fingers of my left hand just trying to hang onto the darn things!!!! Embarassed

Yep .... I catch them offshore up to 10 -12 lbs. but if I caught one like that off of the jetties I'd be tickled to death.
