Mine is using sand bags. Never have before but for sharkathon we brought a bunch of pillow cases and filled them with sand and tied them to everything. Weighted down the canopy when the hellacious storm came through and it was still standing in the morning. We also buried the sand bags to really hold them down. They kept the tent up through the storm also. Then when you are ready to pack up just dump the sand out. Packs very easy and is great when space is tight. Dont go camping without em now.

I like the pillow case idea. Helps keep the ice chest in the shade instead of holding things down. And they wont take up much space in the car.

Good thread. Are you serious about being "quiet" when pulling up to a surf that is probably making its own "noise" with crashing waves, windy blow, etc? I seriously doubt that any fish in the surf can hear any thing that we as fishermen do when approaching a beach fishing locale....but then again????

ONly trick I can offer is to try and locate far enough away from the swimmers and kiddies so as to not get anyone foul hooked!

I have read Sandifer say the same about the noise, any questions?

Can you figure out which one I'd take fishing with me to, uhm, "set my rod holder"?

OK...here's my tip.

if ANYTHING in the water looks 'different/odd/out of the ordinary'...STOP AND FISH IT!

I can't tell you how many times I've been hell bent on getting to the 40's and never make it because I see something that catches my eye...a rip in the current, or something that just doesn't look right, and I'll get onto the fish and never leave that spot.

Great ideas, does it have to be a trick you learned this year or can it be a trick you've known for awhile? Also, can we post more than one?

Can't change the rules because we have posts.

For fisherman with small children. Bring one of those 10$ small plastic pools from Walmart/HEB, dig a hole, place it in the hole and fill with water. Cast net some mullet/shad and place in pool. Hours of entertainment for the kids and you won't need an aerator with all the splashing from them. Not to mention you will be planting the fishing seed for your kids future. And of course..... live bait!!!

Not much to do with my fishing but I always take fresh water and a small towel so that my hands are clean and not stick while driving home. Also use the fresh water to soak my reels before heading home. Then use salt off before they dry. Keeps me and my equipment happy.

I have a good trick. Potlicking. Look for folks catching fish and ease in as closely and quietly as you can. Sneak down to where they are and slam the door on their truck, bang on their rod holders a few times then run back to your spot because that's where the fish should all be now. And when they come over to discuss your potlicking with you, take off all of your clothes and fish nekid. Works quite well.

Leave a roll of paper towels or toilet paper in your rig at all times.
Might get some strange looks from passengers when you're not on the beach but you will never be without when you need it.

I learned to "steer clear" of FIDO's suburban when it is parked angled to the surf.
