Ok, so I learned a few tricks growing up in Hawaii. One of those involves a crab trap (so to speak) built out of a coat hanger and old fishing string. The question is, is it legal for me to use on the PINS or SBH? I'm aware that blue crab must be 5 inches and no eggs, and that only 5% may be kept for bait purposes. I'm just unaware if the crab "trap" is of legal means to catch them. Crab trap would be under 13 inches in diameter and contain no hooks, also would be able to cast for distance. Any advice?

Got a pic?
There is a castable trap called Crab Hawk.
I've seen but not used them.
Look in regs for legality.

Don't have a pic yet, if it is deemed legal then I will post a build up when I construct one for this up coming weekend fishing trip. I looked up the crab hawk and the one I build work completly different. It looks odd but works better than any non commercial trap I've seen for sale.

the only requirements on a crab trap is really the size from what i understood. i didnt see where you couldnt place a trap in the water except for a few designated areas, none of which were the surf. i would think it is totally legal.
