From the American Fisheries Society:
"On September 3, 2011, the AFS Governing Board voted in favor of the Resource Policy Committee's motion to distribute the draft policy statement, "AFS Policy Statement on Lead in Sport Fishing Tackle" to the AFS membership for a final vote to approve".
General voting among the Members is underway now, and even though the wildlife threats are much more specific to waterfowl and freshwater systems, know this: "The Feds are coming for your sinkers" and they want to completely eliminate lead from the fishing industry.
Just so you know.

| Shouldn't be an issue. They've been switching wheel balancing weights from lead for a couple of years now. |

The enviro-weenies have been attacking hunting and fishing any and every way for a while. The old Chines 'death of a thousand cuts' comes to mind.
The proposals to ban lead in ammunition have been defeated several times. With enough outcry to your congress-sritters this can be too, so SPEAK UP! _________________ Why is it that these days sales people seem to be as honest as I am knowledgeable? |

Not at all. Being in the automotive field there was kind of the same worry back when they talked about replacing lead weights for wheel balancing. Main concern being cost. The industry figured it out and the new weights have been being implemented over the past few years.
I guess what I mean is, its not like we won't have anything at all. |

There are other dense metals that will work just as well. Of course they are more expensive which is probably the theory behind this idea. I think it will never happen. Lead is bad and we all know that . Just think of all the lead that lines the lower edges of jetties everywhere. However I do favor lead right now for jigheads and weights. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

| Could be huge for off shore bottom fishing, but for most fishermen, there are work arounds. More costly for sure, but in the big picture, not that big a deal. I' m more concerned with lead bullet bans; I loose more lead in one hour at the range, than a year of fishing. |
