Removing what I refer too as the mudline which is found in numerous freshwater species as well will def change the taste of the meat itself. But idk about the levels of mercury being more concentrated in it or not. I doubt it.

I was told long, long ago that all fish carry their contaminants in the red meat just under their skin on their sides. Was I told wrong that if I removed all of the red meat I'd be able to eat more fish and it would be tastier?

Does nothing for removing the Mercury unless you count that you removed more meat, therefore you won't ingest whatever Mercury was contained in said removed meat (it is dispersed evenly so redder meat doesn't contain more\less Mercury than any other portion). I disagree partly with TopDog15 because I do remove the redder portions of meat and think the fish tastes better (my own personal opinion, not an attack on TD15), although again, not much with the Mercury. Here is a good article that explains decently Mercury in fish and human consumption.

The differences in the "red" meat and the "white" meat is all about physiology and the difference between burst speed and sustained swimming, and the oxygenation of the myomeres (the individual muscle tissues, or as we like to call it, food!). Mud line or not, the red muscle has a very specific purpose, and is found in all fish. Just Google "fish muscle differences" and I will spare you the scientific discussion.

In terms of the mercury, removing the red meat won't help any (and I know nobody who routinely eats the liver and kidneys - where the highest concentrations of mercury are found). It WILL make any filet taste better, as that is where most of the "fishy" taste that turns alot of people off to fish is concentrated. Again, physiology, and I could explain it, but then I would have to kill you! Cool

Haha! Aren't we all!!! I don't eat fish everyday but I def eat to much at one time. Suprise I never O.D.ed on some of these chemicals and metals before.
Wonder if all the weight gain from those delicious fish fry's was from all the mercury settling in my muscle tissue or what have you. Ahahaha.

Well to the ones that didn't know here is some info.

To those that just banter an bash here's you a thread to do so in. Leave other people alone. Smile

Hope this helps people that may have pregnant wife's and little kiddos.
But it's up to you to utilize it can't be forced on you
And no one has the right to criticize you if you do choose to feed your family possibly unhealthy food. In all efforts no you can not make your kiddo pop out with super powers!! Lol

I guarantee you a judge in a child protective case does, and they can go a lot further that criticism if they want.

It's not that. It's the point of we do more harm to ourselves on a daily basis than eating a few fish with mercury. Or other contaminates.

People seem to believe that because of such they have the right to intrude on how others live there lives. We all have opinions that's taken in account.

IMO at least I see the fish healthy when I take it as other wild game. Not some store bought meat that you have no earthly idea what's in it or what the animal/fish looked liked before it was cleaned.

IMO I face worse danger driving to the store to buy food than going to catch my food. Especially with all the idiot drivers these days.

See fishing relaxes me. It's like yoga except I still get to kill something!

Don't know where you came up with that? People certainly express their opinions, favorable or not, and that is what the 1st amendment and why I am a combat veteran is all about. I have yet to see where anyone voicing an opinion is "intruding on how others live their lives" Your comment says that the 1st amendment should not exist - sorry, but everyone has a right to their opinion, good or bad.

I didn't threaten to call anyone dipstick. Read my post (and try to understand it) before you start your blathering again. I was responding to the mans statement that "no one has the right" (or some such as that). He was wrong, a judge does have the right.
