Yep. The idea of facing a mass shooter like this is frightening enough. The guy was determined, had a plan, you don't know if the exits are booby trapped or not, and to boot, you're way out gunned, and the guy is wearing body armor.
That's a bad situation altogther...that's one of those things that you've just got to make up your mind that you're already dead, so you may as well fight with every ounce of your being and take the guy out so he doesn't kill everyone else.
My wife and I were talking about this, and if that guy was wearing armor, you've got two spots to put the guy down a head shot (good luck doing that when you're scared poopless and possibly injured), or shoot the guy in the crotch/groin/hips and hope you disable him and hit a major artery and he bleeds out. Tough things to think about, but it's always better to be prepared.
As for the armor...I think a company named Omega sells the plates...they're bare steel...and will stop the round, but you still get a LOT of fragments from lead/copper that can/will cause injury/death. You've got to figure out how to coat them with something to contain that.
I think the plates are amazingly cheap, something like $50 a plate.

| I just bought a boat last week. We went out twice, first time I didn't carry 2nd time I did. I didn't see a need to carry but better safe than sorry. I have my children with me I'm not gonna take that chance, times they have changed and carrying a gun is the sign I the times. I dnt have a CHL |

| People really underestimate the damage of a pelvic shot, it is almost completely debilitating. There or times where nothing will help, like my worst nightmare, guy armed and on PCP, pretty much need a head shot to take him out NOW, otherwise he's not going to quit until he bleeds out and passes out. I am super lucky that I have only had to pull my gun once at work in 2 1/2/ years, although I have had one pulled on me, I grabbed it right away as I was standing beside him when he did it. I wasn't scared just REALLY REALLY PISSED, any officer that's had this happen will probably agree, you get pissed when you realize someone it trying to kill you. |

The only real reason I carry while fishing is because I'm worried my truck will be burglarized while out fishing. When I am on salt water, its in a waterproof box. I believe its good to have it all the time. I carry at the gym, church, mowing the yard (yeah you read it right), and even when I run in my neighborhood. Only had to fire it once while working but I think I'm probably more likely to use it off duty.
Cops are never there when you need 'em. _________________ Keep your friends close, and your enemies guessing... |

I'm getting used to the idea of carrying at all times & may get to the point you're at very soon

The biggest reasons I carry EVERYWHERE LEGAL (including my front yard!) are the 2 little ones in the living room playing with the dog right now...and the high chance that I will eventually run across an aggressive dog (the 4 legged variety) in my travels. There are too dang many people with dangerous dogs (not to be confused with dangerous breeds!) running loose in S. Texas.
Most people can be reasoned with, dogs really do concern me the most in my current day to day situation. You can find yourself up against one virtually anywhere and any time...even out on the water you have to get to and from your truck twice (launching and loading) across a very public and busy parking area. _________________ Why is it that these days sales people seem to be as honest as I am knowledgeable? |

I hear you on the 2 little ones! My two girls are sitting here in the living room watching "Tangled" -- would do anything to protect them.
I'd never considered dogs, though you're right! We take regular walks down our neighborhood to the park -- now that I think about it, I've seen a dog (big, too) every time. |
