KRIS-TV carried the story of the new charter amendment on beach closures; don't know if KIII-TV did. Can't imagine why when I also emailed the breaking news to the Caller-Times nothing appeared in today's edition re the beach closures except the LTTE. That's no reflection on the very good LTTE, of course.

Boost locals

I'm not from Corpus Christi, but I read the papers and listen to the news as well as follow the Corpus Christi news online. It seems to me that the City Council has a hidden agenda or hopes of private compensation when they pursue some programs with such vigor it draws your attention. The closing of the beach is a case in point.

Seems most of those projects fail. Most of their favorite projects seem to be with entertainment companies and tourist attractions which take their profits away from Corpus Christi and only employ minimum wage persons.

You would think they would promote local businesses so that the money stays in Corpus Christi and people hired get better pay. Ramming their favorite project down the throats of local citizens will get old before long and a new set of council persons will take their place.

Thank you for posting this article, Mr. French.

Having spent 2 1/2 years living near Redondo Beach, California, and having traveled from San Diego up to to Santa Cruz, I do not recall one stretch of the beach along Hwy 1 (Pacific Coast Highway) that one could drive a vehicle on -- and that is nearly the entire coast line of the state!.... Dunes? LOL .... What are those, a Californian would ask! (Coastal communities have built so close to the water, that many have never seen 'em!)

Oops, let me clarify. The general public could not drive on the sand. I've seen plenty of lifeguards drive their orangish-yellow vehicles on the beach.

Actually from Pismo Beach North to the Canadian border there is very little beach. It is mostly rocky cliffs and volcanic shores. Very Happy

There is a small stretch about 26 miles near Ocean Shores Washington, but it is very isolated and several hours drive from Seattle. They also restrict it from April 15th to Labor Day to clamming only.

There have already been attempts there by lawmakers in Seattle to scrap the time honored tradition of driving on the beach on the West Coast out there. Seattle constituents were horrified that these trucks making tracks would ruin the tranquility of their beach experience. Meanwhile those state representatives of that section of Washington told the latte swillers how it was or at least for now.
