Been looking for a good opportunity to head down the PINS all the way to the end. Friday thru Sunday looked pretty good and fit into our schedule, so we grabbed the boys and headed down.

Looks like the Park Rangers have a sense of humor about the seaweed.

Upon hitting the sand the water was brown and there was tons of seaweed. Oh yeah, and it smelled like S*&! But like good soldiers we pressed on taking the high road the whole way. I tried taking some area by the water and almost lost the truck in a sink hole or two caused by buried seaweed. That was a lesson learned for sure.

When we got to the mid 40's the water was green and there was no seaweed. None in the water or any piled up by the shore. Things were looking a lot better at this point. Still insistent on going to the end we passed up the 50 mile marker and pressed on until about 52 miles. It was here that we saw a nice peninsula and a wade gut that turned out to be about 5 feet deep which was fulllllll of bait. Did not want to pass this spot , so we stopped here. Probably a pretty good idea due to the fact that I'm sure the end was occupied because it was the weekend. Really shouldn't plan a trip to the end unless it is like a Tuesday or something. The water was beautiful here, but the current was ripping north at a steady pace. The wind was a little stronger Friday evening than what I anticipated. Regardless, we had some good baits and were ready for some hook ups. Our buddy Chuck made it out around 6ish and is somewhat new to the fishing thing, so we nominated him for kayak duty which he accepted. Baits successfully get deployed only for the current to rip my weights from the ocean bottom shortly there after. The weights I am using are big heavy weights so I thought. So Unless it calmed down our shark fishing was pretty much over (it did not calm down). I will kayak a Volkswagen for a weight before this happens to me again. I know you can't help the weed, but this one was all on me. By the way there was no weed in the water to speak of down where we were and the driving was great. Woke up the next morning and decided to try that sweet looking gut that I spoke of earlier. It was game on!!! Slot red after slot red mixed in with big jacks. The boys and Chuck reeled in about every fish with the exception of the jacks. These little guys have potential. They were cast netting their own bait and throwing out their own lines catching fish. We did let the boys try to reel in one of the jacks and after about 30 minutes of the boys battling the jack let Chuck intervene and reel in his first Jack. This one here drug Neil down the beach for quite a ways requiring a little breather for my friend. We ended up with 16 redfish, three big jacks and a whiting. Perfect for a mothers day fish fry!! The wind on Saturday was absolutely BRUTAL. Did not see it calming down much and could not get the weights to hold we headed home Saturday night. Hit it on low tide and driving was great on the way home. Until next time, stay safe.

I am not typing all of that again but.....Went down to the 50's driving and water was good. Slammed the redfish Saturday morning but left that night due to the Brutal wind. Good trip all in all. Driving was bad going down, but it was on high tide.

One word....wow!!! Great job!! Kids looked like they had fun, that's what it's all about. Btw if I may ask, what was the bait of choice for those great looking reds?

Live mullet and cut mullet freshly cast netted from the surf.
