I don't know about that, I dropped a small chunk and I was fishing in a week on MY boat. Some folks just dont want to spend a year or 2 building a boat. Some don't have the skills or atleast they think they don't. I have the tools , the skills, to build either a wood or aluminum craft. I just don't have the time. Maybe when I retire......naaaaaaaa! Uncle d is showing some excellant craftmanship and he really has an eye for detail. The finished product will be showroom quality. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

I've been watching Don build his boat from the very start. He does indeed do good work. There is no corner cutting and even a tear out or two because it wasn't coming together quite right. His hull will be unique and very well suited for fishing the ULM and anywhere else he wants to take it. Keep it up Don.
To IMS's point building a boat is not for everyone. It starts out as a way to replace sweat equity for cash to get the boat you want. But, for some, boat building is like a virus (BBV) you cannot shake. Sometimes you just want to quit but you just can't. And while they are working on one they are already considering their next. What's next Don?

Quite...................... It definitely AIN'T for everyone, and I would actually say very few! The hours involved are seemingly endless, and if you're the anal/perfectionist type on your projects like I am, things can just keep grinding on and on forever. The hours that are stated in the plans are IMHO a very low estimation of the actual time needed to do a QUALITY job.
There are many shortcuts that can greatly reduce the grinding and fairing time, but as both Don and Charles now know from experience, many of these aren't learned or realized until some nebulous time in the life of the project!!! _________________ Dave

Atta boy! I knew you had at least one. That houseboat would be great to cruise out to the landcut or up toward POC, towing the phanton.
Don't bother with the Texas Sled, I'm going to build that one (as soon as SWMBO thinks it's a good idea ).

Starting to get a few accessories in. I now have my gauges and just got in my hatches. These are T-H Designer Series. Suppose to "walk-on". We'll see. Can't tell you how many I've stepped on and broke.
Also have a few more cleats glued in for the sole/ floor around the console. D. |

Those hatches will hold well. I like the stainless hinges. The hatches I put on my boat have plastic hinges which do not last. Hopefully yours are actually water tight. Mine... not so much.

Yeah the guys over in Florida promised me some BIG fish. I have a 12/0, 9/0, and some 6's that need testing out. So I got great deal on a very good belt that could not pass up. Perhaps we can test it out later this season?

Yup, this is why I need a garage. That is an awesome build. I'm truly envious of your talent. _________________ Not much motion in the ocean...but hey, I'm the captain! |
