i know it's a baby, but this is my first and only shark i've ever caught. just wondering if someone could i.d. it. i got it the february before last about 17 miles down pins in the second gut.








i'm hoping to change that as my only shark next month

i've always wondered what it was and was browsing pix, so figured i'd ask.


and buddy is my brother.. aka beefcake here. we camped down pins for 4 days.. it was a pretty good burn we all got.

It was February! It was cloudy, raining, foggy all weekend then the sun comes out for 2 hours and bam, my first mid-winter sunburn.

I'm just yanking your chain. There are a few things to look for in ID'ing a shark, and it splits the major groups out into manageable units. But without a closer look (I can't see the interdorsal ridge in your pic), there is not much else to go on. Just calling everything a "blacktip" or a "sand bar shark" won't cut it, as the fin placements and coloration are pretty similar in a number of different species.

thanks guys for the replies. i compared it to a few atlantic sharpnose pix and that does apear to be it

at the time i had caught it, i hadnt even heard of an atlantic sharpnose.. i knew it wasnt a black tip. i've seen several of those.
