Rattle snakes don't rattle anymore. The wild pigs started honeing in on the snakes when they rattle. Wild pigs eat them. So they learned it's best not to rattle. Many years ago I was walking around my grand mothers house at night and one started rattling away. I just backed up in the steps I came in on. Wordem for me. Scary not knowing where they are when you hear that at night.

And I've stepped on one or two without realizing until after, thank god it was cold outside and they were not in the mood striking. Ive also heard that due to rattle snake round-ups and such( which target the ones that rattle), that the ones that don't rattle are the vast survivors and therefore procreate, passing down the "no rattle" jean. Again, this is just a hunch, but it makes since to me. |
BINGO! A snake that rattles, is a dead snake. One that doesn't lives another day, makes more babies, and the behavior is passed on. BTW, snakes have genes, not jeans. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

Last summer I had to drive around a 5-6 footer slithering across Dasmarinas here on the Island...it was coming out of tall grass and weeds and heading for residences...I thought about driving over it but I knew better...

| I had a similar experience in January while tracking a pig. I was intent on looking for blood and noticed a weird coloration near my hand. The rattler was 8" from my hand and coiled up, but was asleep. I moved away slowly and put a little space between us before thanking God for watching out. Makes your hair stand on end, doesn't it? |

I friggen hate them... I was climbing into a pit blind last year and was about half way in when I heard the rattle bug go off.... face to face with a 5 footer. someone, he was shot in the face with a 357 load of rat shot. he didn't make it.
neither did my underwear. |
