|
|
Heading out to the coast again, still hoping to catch something other then whities. So i have a couple questions im hoping i can get some help with.
When fishing for drum at Marker 37 or red dot pier do i want to be fishing the bottom or top?
What is the best way to hook these sea lice and do i want them dead or alive?
ALSO
Could someone tell me whats biting this time of year at Bob Hall or Indian Point? I haven't seen any reports.
Does no one here fish the PA Jetties?
Anybody have any reviews on the Penn 440ssg?
Sorry i have tons of questions but no one to ask. |

I have a penn 430SSg, and it is probably one of my most temperamental reels. I have landed good fish with it, but it get hard to reel if you don't grease the gears and oil other parts. I usually fish the bottom for drum. Hope this helps

I fish port A mostly the summer through November. Ill be down this weekend hunting wheelies and trout.
Fish on the bottom when fishing for drum. Any old "tourist" double drop rig will work. Never had much luck with sealice so I use crab when available and fresh dead or Lovelace shrimp.
The ssg are a POS! Buy shimano! The 29.99 ones will outlast an SSG |

| On bottom for drum and I second the crab over anything else to catch them. However Sunday evening they were hitting gulp shrimp sitting on the bottom as well as shrimp. I would get a redfish sliding leader. Have been having more luck with that leader than any other. Crab are incredibly hard to come by right now though. When I use sea lice I go in from the top side of the head curl them around and go through the inside of the tail plate. Make sure that you use sharp hooks cuz going through those hard shells will dull them fast |

X 2!!!
I own several of the SSg's, a 420, a 430, 2 440s. They can be very pissy at times, the older Penn SS's were made in the USA and were better reels IMO, the new ones are made in China if I'm not mistaken, and you are paying for a name and a pretty gold looking spool, not a quality product. Like FINS said, look into some of the lower end Shimanos and you probably won't be disapointed. Carolina rigged peeled shrimp w' fish bites combo seems to work for drummys sometimes for me. _________________ "Those of us that had been up all night were in no mood for coffee and donuts, we wanted strong drink. | A few days ago my cousin and a friend of mine had a few runs at Indian Point using crab. Lost one. The fish just dropped the bait. Other than that not much else there. The water has been real clear and not much trout action that I have heard of lately. |

I have another question to add to my list.
What kind of crabs are best used for catching drum? |

Large blues are what most people are using, but aren't usually available. Fishbites are actually really underestimated for drum, you might want to give them a shot if you can't find the crabs. |
