Good Monday Morning All,
Im going to fish POC for the 1st time the 1st weekend in March. Planning on fishing the outer jetty, the Pass, and some of the state water rigs. My Wellcraft is way to big and runs to deep for the back lakes so I was hoping for a little info on what to expect. I have been told that the Gafftop will be good at the jetty, flatties will be good at the Pass, and that the skies the limit offshore. I spend tons of time fishing the Port A area and the Landcut. We have never been any further North then Cedar B. If anyone has time your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
David M.

First of all, Pass Cavallo being a natural shallow pass is very treacherous. It is shallow with bars running all over it. I would be very careful trying to fish the pass from a boat.

The big jetties can be very productive. Fish the inside of the jetties where the funnel starts to open up. On calm days the outside of the jetties can be good. The mid Matagorda Bay wells can produce trout, reds, and tripletails. And on outgoing tides the mouths of Boggy and Broad Bayous into Matagorda can be awesome for reds and trout. The sandy shoreline from POC to Indianola is a very productive flat for flounder. Given that the bays are still pretty cool right now, I would concentrate of the big jetties and the wells out in Matagorda Bay. And if a cold front hits driving the temps down, go try the Army Hole for reds and trout on the bottom.

I don't mess with offshore except in the summer.

Good luck!
