My sincere condolences to the MacMahon family on the passing of Mr. Mac. When we moved to Peary Place from the westside of CC in the summer of1963, his tackle shop became my favorite place to hang out after school at Sundeen plus it was within walking & bike riding distance. My buddies Richard Tennyson and Robert Spoon would make the trip with me. He taught me how to build fishing rods using calcutta cane and the highly-valued (still) Harnell blanks. That skill actually paid for my books at Del Mar college from 1968-1970.
He introduced me to lure fishing and surf fishing and, although I rarely fished for shark, I did become a regular tarpon fisherman on Bob Hall pier (here's your chance for the "missed five" story, Capt. Mike!!). Even paddled a few chunks of bloody jacks out for the shark fisherman and Mr. Mac thought I plain crazy.
Fair winds and following seas Mr. Mac.

Mac and his wife were some of the finest people you will ever meet. Ran by the place all the time to buy everything from perch hooks, to use at nearby Fondren's (now Lakeview) Pond, to several Penn 109s and my first open-faced spinning reel, a black Penn (remember those?). As much as he loved fishermen, I'll bet he's back selling bait and tackle just inside the Pearly Gates. _________________ The Trash Heap Has Spoken!

Sounds like a helluva guy and a great place to be if you were a boy in the 1960's _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

| Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Mac and his family. Mr. & Mrs. Mac were the coolest folks to be around. They set the example for many of fisherman, young and old, who had the fortune of knowing them and doing business at there shop. And yes, it way past the sixties, we didn't meet them until we moved to CC in 75 and started fishing the beach. They sponsored and participated with the CC Shark Association for many a year. .....tightlines Mr. Mac |
