I was at home this afternoon eating a homemade grilled chicken sandwich for lunch. I was trying to get some grub in before heading to a lost family members funeral. My wife said, this has to be the best sandwich she had ever had. All I could say was we did not have very much meat in the fridge back in the days when I was a kid. Mom was always mad for the hotdogs, bacon or bologna always gone. When she and dad were at work, that was fishing bait for the drainage ditch resaca behind the house. Oh the memories of mayonaise sandwiches. I would put chips or whatever I could find but meat was always used for bait. So funny of my childhood memories and I did eventually get a glass minnow trap to keep out of the fridgerator. I give all thanks to my father and grandfather for introducing me to fishing. I'm so blessed my wife loves to fish and she fish and navigate our boats like most captains can. I did see her pissed though a while back when we had both boats out treating the family to an outing. The Fishmaster won't go across water the scooter will but, I'll give her credit that she tried to keep up with me across 5 inches of water. I do think I 've created a monster with my 6 year old daughter. That little one sure loves to fish and It is so fun to see her go. At the funeral today, the pastor talked about leaving behind a legacy. I thought at that moment that I hope to pass on a great legacy. At that moment, an old man in the next pew let out a nice fart and the wife looks at me. I swear it wasn't me but she smiled in disbeleif. That will probably be my legacy mentioned in my funeral to come but not now. I thank God and my family for fishing and so many memories. I can truly say what wonderful the memeories we have are priceless. I'll always remember that knowledge and experience of presentation is better than any hotdog, bacon or or even a fart in the quiet of a funeral or church.

LOL! on the old man at church. Sounds like my dad "I couldn't help it!"

I used to take bacon to use to go fishing with at Westlake Village, Lake in CA when I was a kid and caught bass, blue gill, and crappie on it. I think the bologna was tougher to get on the hook

Speaking of memories, out of the blue today, I recalled the name of my barber at Cullen Mall when I was about 9 years old. Chester.

Now, why the h#!! can't I remember what I had for dinner last night??

I remember moving tot he FB canals with my father when I was 13. He never liked to fish but new that was my passion. He took me to Walmart and I bought a new Garcia Cardinal reel and rod. I loaded with the biggest line I could find. I think it was around 100 lb test. Needles to say that did not work out too well, but I managed to figure things out over time. Shortly after that he bought me a john boat and I spent 90% of summer nights camping on the islands all over tha back yard. I need to write down all the stories before I forget them. Good memories....

Amen on the childhood memories of fishing (and eating)!

There were many time on BHP back in the 60's that I had more fun and caught more really good eating by using bream hooks and little bitty pieces of shrimp to catch small spadefish than the "fun" I had soaking shrimp on the bottom catching nothing but hardheads!!!!

I had to be about 10 at the time when I saw a couple of kids playing in my dads jon boat. I told them to get out of it and they said it was theirs. Even on our property they continued to argue. I picked up a nice rock and knocked one of the kids out. I could throw rocks like no one could back in those days. Was I in trouble. After all the appologies and mom and dad taking care of the medical bills, we ended up being best friends. I really never learned my lessons back in the day. I even lit a whole package of fireworks that another friend had hanging out of his pocket. Darn was his mom mad. She had just bought those jeans the day before. Fire crackers did the trick on those toughskin jeans. Oh those childhood memories. I can't believe even the high school years. One thing I regret was taking that arrow I got in cub scouts for getting the arrow of light award and shooting it straight up in the air with my slingshot. It landed about 5 foot from my dad. I didn't even know he was behind the fence when I shot it. He wasn't too happy but almost got the slingshot taken away.
