The following statement makes WPP look like a sweet baby sister...

Famed oceanographer and longtime Gulf conservationist Sylvia Earle said the investment in so much time and money is wasted if the end result does not lead to sound policies based on better science, not the current models.

Earle, chairwoman of the Harte Research Institutes advisory board, said creating zones of permanent fishing and drilling moratoriums would allow scientists an opportunity to gather baseline data for the benefit of future generations of policy and decision makers.

next paragragh without quotation marks...

I commend what the task force is doing, but theres a big gap from where the focus is to where it needs to be, she said. We need permanent protections. We carve up the Gulf to exploit it, why not carve out areas dedicated to protection and recovery?

Ms Earle's statement's are not those of the task force and are only her personal opinions... at this time. However, as chair of the HRI advisory board, who is currently hosting the seminar, I would suggest that she has the ear of more than a few of the folks who will be making decisions regarding the future management of the GOM.

The EPA "fixing" anything always leads to less access and use possibilities by people who love the outdoors. The fox "fixing" the hen house would be of similar worth and trust!!!

Nature fixes itself over time.

Thread title should read 'EPA to "Fix" GOM'.

The Gulf doesn't need "fixing", it needs realistic and achievable management.

Neither the EPA or NMFS is qualified, as it stands, to "fix" anything in the Gulf.
