Sounds like an old guy with nothing better to do than find something to whine about.

OH NO NO NO! don't believe that!!!

that guy was at the Wade Paddle and Pole deal, he is one of them and they are still at it! make no mistake about it!

I think he (they) screwed the pooch though by coming out as anti-hunter in the middle of duck season, bet they were thinking they would get some anyi-hunter folks to speak up. fat chance they'll get more than a handful of vocal supporters on that one. they also stepped in it by suggesting they SPLIT LHL trails. that's a doozy. who gets what? who decides who gets what? who decides what is fair on who decides who gets what? geez...

these guys are so misguided, the "I want my cake and eat it too" crowd and all they're doing is shutting it down for EVERYONE, themselves included. they think they have the best intentions, they're just tightening the noose around their *own* necks for access.

Mr. Fetus,

I am on the advisory board of Texas Wade Paddle and Pole.
I would like to correct some statements made in your post above.

Mr. McReynolds is not a representative of TWPP and his positions and statements are his own.
I helped to organize the workshop held last January -- Mr. McReynolds did not attend.

Was out kayak fishing in north nighthawk on opening day. It was a warzone with duckhunters - thousands of ducks, every blind and patch of tall grasss had hunters in it and there was shotgun fire all morning. I gave them there space, they respected mine. I chatted with most of them as they were still taking down ducks. I joke about wearing a flak-jacket out there, but never did I once feel unsafe, and I even retrieved a few downed ducks for them as they landed in some deep muddy-bottomed water. This guy is just cranky and wanted to whine on TV.

Does TWPP have an official stance on this subject?

Texas Parks and Wildlife, however, said there is not a problem. Richard Martin, the Aransas County game warden, said no one will get hurt as long as everyone is careful. "The hunters have just as much access as the kayakers, and they're just going to have to coexist together."

I copied and pasted this statement from the article at the KSIX TV website.

I retract my statement then, even the one about the Kool-Aid. In the internet clip he looked exactly like someone I sat next to at said workshop.

my apologies for leaping before I looked.

i got peppered dove hunting at about 120 yards my sister dug 5 pellets out of my back(had time to turn around) it really wasn't that big a deal but still wasn't fun... i would say give them a good hundred yards or more birth as you should do with fisherman as well

Bobby McReynolds is a distant family member of mine. A real good guy. He's an avid kayak fisherman and hunter, not a reactionary or tree hugger at all. He's very habitat concious as well as safety concious. He has sailed all over the world since his early retirement. I imagine he was surprised when the hunters began firing and that prompted his concerns.
Personally I don't yak and I wouldn't consider yakking anywhere near a duck blind during open season. people have been hunting these areas since before there was such a thing as the modern day kayak. If anything they should post warning signs alerting yakers that it is hunting season. As far as boat traffic, you are always going to have jerks that ignore safe boating around kayakers.

Dove shot at 120 yds? Not sure about that. I've been peppered at much closer distances and the BB's (or what's left of them) have never broken the skin. 120 yards is a long way for a light load like dove shot to travel.
